They've been letting good IT people go for well over a decade. Add in the outsourcing of critical tasks to cra*py companies, who's employees don't know what they're doing, you have a recipe for TIS downfall.

In my experience, the upper level mgmt don't want to hear good ideas, they want to hear that the outsourcing is working well, and was a good decision. If you don't kiss a**, you'll be out the door soon enough.

you get what you pay for. in the case of TIS it's mostly a bunch of third worlders who know how to copypaste from github

The autocratic style referenced in the previous post only works when you have extremely competent people making the decisions. When you have D&I hires and political appointees making the decisions you have what we have now. A death spiral!

The same problem that plagues all departments and ultimately I think will cause the downfall and subsequent breakup of enbridge. The problem is under the former CEO enbridge developed a belief that a small group of people at the top could make all the decisions and the people below this group just need to execute it. Their imput is not valued or wanted. This autocratic style is proving to be disastrous. What other company do you know of that requires all decisions to be made at a vp level? Its to be the undoing of the company.

IT people running "support" are the best, helped me so many times and are underrated!

So... 1997? I think that was about how far back the relationship with GE Capital existed. No company looks kindly on their IT department. They're viewed a a pure cost centre - intrusive, controlling, and unnecessary - at the very best of times.

Of course if everybody in IT put their tools down the company would grind to a halt in hours. And sometimes the IT people running "support" for business apps have better longevity (and inside knowledge) than most of the people actually using the apps... but that's not important either.

Everybody hates IT. That's the takeaway. TIS isn't special in this regard - that's how it works everywhere.
