Thread regarding VMware layoffs

Broadcom is giving us the minimum they can to get the job done

So shouldn't we return the favor?

I have 7 figures in RSUs to collect... I might retire if the value lasts the next 3 years.

Many people don’t realise how good they had it at VMware, can understand why to many what’s happening is a real culture shock.

That said Broadcom are not unique in paying staff the minimum they can to get a job done, why do you think so many countries have a minimum wage?!

VMware as you knew it is gone. You now have to accept that your relationship with your employer is nothing more than transactional. If you don’t like that then it’s a free market so you can discover if your skills are valued more highly elsewhere, and with a company that shares your values.

Ultimately though whoever you end up working for has a fiduciary responsibility to their shareholders as everyone has so brutally found out with this acquisition. You have to give HT credit in that he’s very transparent on this point so at least you know where you stand, and are not being wrapped up in cotton wool to reality.

As for your manager and the resentment you have regards their RSUs, that’s how a hierarchical organisation works. Don’t resent them for it, they’ve worked to get in that position and you can too. Learn how.

If you feel they’re making unfair demands, either learn how to manage your manager and their expectations, find another role internally, or again, it’s a free market find another company that values your skills more.

You’re in shock right now, take some time to absorb the changes that are happening, get used to the new world you find yourself in, then start making decisions not based on emotion, because guaranteed BC don’t make their decisions with emotion.

Would love to do that. Problem is my manager. He got fat RSU’s and doesn’t let us get away with minimum required work

Blink twice if you are a hostage and need to get out. Otherwise leave. No one forces you to stay. Or swap with someone that was let go despite having kids and mortgage.

You can take your own future in to your hands following your letter yesterday. It was a good ride but maybe you need something different for the future.

You are responsible for your own future. Take it or leave it.

Yet another typically childish input - no wonder VMware got acquired

You should, which is still probably more than most did at VMware. Rest and vest is dead.
