Thread regarding VMware layoffs

Worst company I've ever worked for

As a person who was fortunate enough to received an offer by Broadcom post VMware acquisition, I told myself I'd give it at least 6 - 10 months before re-evaluating my career situation. Over my 15 year career and being 3 months into this acqusition, I can easily say this is the worst company I've ever worked for and it's not even close.

Things I've noticed that are very concerning:

  • They don't Communicate (literally anything....)
  • Don't Invest in any tools that could streamline processes
  • They give a damn about anyone but a shareholder
  • CEO is a tyrant who spouts out all kinds of offensive things, with no repercussions
  • Constantly changing processes without any communicating them

If I had know even a fraction of what I know now on how Broadcom would operate, treats employees, and treat VMware customers, I would have taken the severance and ran.

For all the people who say, the RSU's are great...sure, but even that is not worth it for me at this point. Also, before I get any smartass responses, don't worry I'm already looking for a new job and will be gone soon enough.

I have a 26 years career in IT and I've worked for companies who's CEO turned out to be a delusional grandpa with a thing for younger women, companies who turned out to be fraudulent which cost 22.000 people their jobs. VMware was a breath of fresh air and very nice company to work for but after the BC acquisition I'm more ashamed to say I work for BC. What a sh!tshow, what a narcissistic dictator and the derogatory tone, it's as if we're back in kindergarten.

I At VMware it never seemed like great ideas would actually get fully baked and implemented.

I have yet to see a single thing during or after this acquisition that’s been fully baked. It’s one clusterf@ck after another.

VMware was one of the best companies to work for in the USA. It's amazing how far it's fallen in such a short time. VMware's reputation, in the tech world, has dived almost as fast.

I would have jumped ship already but I'm at EUC. I'm willing to see how that plays out.

There has been zero change in the pace.

This is not true. There has been plenty of negative change taking place.

Are you able to use all the doors in a building?
Can you work at home?
Do you still have the same resources for work as you used to have?
Do you have quality coffee and condiments?
Do you have free snacks (a constant of Si Valley companies)?
Do you have paper towels in the restrooms?
Can you charge your car for free (a constant of Si Valley companies)?

Remember kids, when the boss says there is no work from home culture, he means you cannot work from home. If you are still working from home before you come to the office, or after you go home (because you like what you do), why? The company gives you nothing for free, why are you giving the company free labor?

BS. You're just making things up.

It's been two months. There has been zero change in the pace. We are all still recuperating from the acquisition and layoffs. Some employees just regained access to some services last week. We are all still catching up to where we were pre-acquisition, let alone all swimming in the same direction and at a quicker pace.

Have to admit I moved into the cap that stopped caring about 6 months before the acquisition closed. Everything was going in such an obvious direction I realized it didn’t actually matter if I cared. Once I looked at my offer I definitely decided that I could easily continue not caring while the money came in.

I think the above comment makes sense, move yourself into the 'don't care' state of mind. Don't care about customers, partners, co-workers. Focus on the next thing - RSU's vesting.

I saw it coming. So glad I rejected the offer. This won’t end well for BC. RSUs are so not worth the anguish. Sad how a once iconic company gets folded into a company that has zero regard for its people. BC is now saddled with 80B debt, with angry partners and customers looking for alternatives. I’m not gonna hold onto my BC stock much longer. So glad I made good profit on it.

I’m gets easier when you stop caring about process changes or quality of work. Ride the wave you stay or go.. doesn’t matter.. longer you stay more rsu in your pocket but just remove yourself from the ‘I care about what I do’ side and you can be quite content.

If working for a company is a bell curve, with good companies on the right end and bad companies on the left end, vmware is towards the right end (working for the company, not considering how the company was staffed & managed). Not entirely on the right end, but beyond the meadian, for sure.

Broadcon is on the extreme left end of the bell curve. In the 'Danger, stay away!' area.

It's a terrible place to work. Without the quaretly vesting and a high-priced stock, it would be a ghost town. No one wants to be there, except for the potential for earnings.

Furthermore, as it gets worse and worse (aka: lower and lower productivity), more people will leave. Quality, across the board will drop, and more customers will re-evaluate and leave too. Customers leaving from frustration is not even conssidering ever increasing Broadcon multipler on costs of maintaining a vmware-filled data center.... that will make many more leave.

vmware will become the bitter pill that customers & developers are stuck swallowing. For the near-term future.

At least from a product perspective, everyone is generally swimming in the same direction. Maybe it won't work, but the alignment is a nice improvement. The RSUs are kind of ridiculous at this point. Could reach 7 figures in the first 15 months of vesting. Never saw anything like that from VMW.

You should try working for a telco. Broadcom has some warts compared to VMware, but you have no idea how bad bad can be until you've done a few years with one of the majors in the telco space. What should take 10 minutes is 10 months if you're lucky, 10 years if you're not.

15 year career. How much of that was at VMware? If majority then no wonder you feel like this. VMware is a great company but not representative of what is normal in the corp world.
