Carbon Black staying

CB not being sold now!

No buyer (or buyer not paying enough)
Or
Hock thinks CB is now an important part of the BC group

VMware bought CB only to help their Indian friends. CB was in a bad shape already.

CB failed anti virus bake offs against MICROSOFT DEFENDER over and over again. It is hot garbage. Poor Symantec. Getting bought by Broadcom and now this.

Hock will make it profitable, just means CB will have 80% less employees and customers will pay 200% more. If that doesn’t work, he will just write it all down, close the biz, and move on.

Welcome to the broadcom death trap CB folks.

Well no kidding there is no “magic IP” but there is IP that is considerably better than what was there prior. CB utilized IP from other companies acquired by VMware to bring security to a larger portion of the stack than just endpoints, which may be of value to BC’s move forward strategy since multi cloud was Hocks entire push for acquiring VMware, not the on prem business. One such piece was shimmed into CBC to create another product that rated significantly higher than Symantec’s version of the same product. If it could be shimmed into CBC it probably could be shimmed into Symantec too. Again not saying this is definitely the case, but as soon as news broke of CB being divested these blurred lines between CB native and non native integrations raised major questions about how a clean spin off was even going to look.

What some mo--ns here don't seem to get is that having two prospects for buyers was a sign the company wasn't attractive... A good asset has many ppl making low ball offers not just a handful.

Hock wasn't asking too much here, the company failed to attract any decent offers which is what ppl have been saying for the last 18 months anyway.

Sad to see the cope in this thread by people who should know better. There's no magic IP they want to keep, the numbers su-k. The company has terrible prospects and poor financials.

CB's financials su-k and the product is more expensive than competitors. Its not a bad product, but it is too expensive to ever have a large market share. The unit economics work better for on-prem.

My thoughts {based on pure conjecture mind you} is that BC wanted to retain some portion of IP that is critical to the continued business viability of CB for itself, and the 'long list of suitors' we kept hearing about all ultimately backed out for that reason since it was no longer an attractive deal for the amount of money required. Coupled with

> If they couldn't get 1 B for Cb it means revenue su-ks and debt is high

its no surprise considering how much revenue was being hemorrhaged by the mere association with Broadcom pre-close. IT departments across the world know by now not to get caught in the "sticky" trap Broadcom sets. And they've experienced what's happened with quality, service and support with Symantec, CA, Bluecoat, etc post acquisition especially to customers Broadcom doesn't consider worth their time.

Either he over played his hand with CB or he is a lier.

Right, which is all just your assumption based on zero fact or understanding of how it was played out.

They were very upfront about how much influence they had. It was repeated on multiple All Hands. They can give input but it is Hock's show and he runs it. It su-ks, but they've been consistent with that. None of this is unusual for Broadcom and Hock. It su-ks, and is very shortsighted, but it is what we would expect from Broadcom.

There is a difference between being optimistic, and lying about how much influence he had with all this. He had plenty of meetings with Ravi and crew and came back saying we will know very soon. Either he over played his hand with CB or he is a lier.

Hock had the final say but we have been going through this ring fence/sold off bull cr-p for two years. Everyone is. It going to sit on their hands and wait to get laid off.

Nothing happens in Broadcom without the explicit approval or disapproval of Hock Tan. But, sure, let's pin on someone three rungs down the ladder.

You are mistaken in your criticism of Sean Forkan.
The man was truly optimistic, and understands the value of Carbon Black.
Look to the CEO of Broadcom for any critique - all decisions lie with him.

Sean Forkan is a lier and a fraud. He has mislead the Carbon Black team for two straight years. He should be ashamed of himself and how he has managed to lie and lie again just to try and keep talent.

How does it feel now Sean? You just “ring fenced” your way to Carbon Black ultimate destruction.

LOL OP in the corner frantically wa----g at it, so happy in knowing that they got FIRST!

Seriously, what was the point? You don't even get real internet points on an anonymous site. All you did was just leak critical information that harms our stock prices for absolutely no gain to yourself. Why?

OP here

Not everyone on this site with an insight or rumour is a troll. Just because you don't like the story is not a reason to abuse the messenger.

Anyway, best of luck to the CB folk going-forward in BC or elsewhere.

OP over and out

The body language of everyone on camera plus the tones of their voices were very telling. It’s going to be ugly all around. Many customers were hanging on by a thread by the constant stream of optimism coming from these same people. They’ll likely be out the door now that Broadcom is in the picture long term, coupled with a sense of being misled for the last three months, the stigma of Symantec from their acquisition, and the lack of technology synergy between the two. I also assume there are going to be deep personnel cuts. Put my resume back out immediately after the call. Don’t believe being retained would even be worth it at this point.

Kudos to the OP for being correct. CB is not for sale and rolling under Symantec. Hock with the crazy 180 on this one. Time will tell if they keep any of the CB folks and Partners that cover areas Symantec doesn’t play in or simply hand the tech over to Symantec to use as an advanced tier or something, But it’s safe to say CB as we know/knew it is dead.

Also I noticed that CB is no longer under the discontinued business cost center so there may be some truth to this.

The SED division? So the OP clearly doesn’t work in security or have a technical understanding of CB and Symantec. The 2 can/would never operate cohesively and cannot be combined or merged. From the basics of the technology, to GTM strategies and segments they target, there’s competitive overlap, but more importantly they don’t play together. Hock has his SED division that can address his “security” needs for his target base. CB is in another realm, and playing an arena Hock wants nothing to do with.

Mark my words, once the bidding period from buyers is up this Friday, there will be a buyer for CB and Broadcom will continue to squeeze the life (profit) out of VMware. They couldn’t and wouldn’t keep a company that has no alignment with their business plan and not recoup something towards the pile of debt they made for themselves.

I remember someone on Blind quoting the All Hands saying that they had 100% confirmation that Carbon Black was renaming itself.

They didn't understand that the message was that Carbon Black may rename products away from VMware's naming convention, not the actual company.

Reading comprehension is always in play

Hock would never publicly make CB available and then change course. The great leader would die before retreating. If anything, he would sell for a loss and explain how it was a genius move and promote himself to a 27th role at BC.
