Thread regarding Optum layoffs

Laid off WellMed Employee

I'm a former bus develop. rep for some of the specialty service lines of USMD, (owned by WellMed), when CMS reduced the refund for PCPs, our budget was cut. Then it was being hinted at that reps in the field should try to find ways to reduce mileage and expenses...in other words, no more lunches or going that extra mile for referrals. Lastly, all requests to sponsor and attend events was put on hold a few months before we were all laid off. There was no clear reason why we were let go, other than WellMed was closing all specialty service lines. That was it. We've become a country that allows companies and corporations to disrupt the lives of the employees through mass layoffs than let the company or shareholder suffer losing any profits on their end.

Read your severance package carefully before signing it. According to former employees that were laid off, they had a hard time receiving unemployment. Severance pay might reduce your benefit amount or make you ineligible.

What is the severance package those of you all affected?

Is it possible to negotiate?

Those who are in a position to seek a second opinion from an employment attorney, please share what you learned for the rest of the group.

I am a clinician just released. There were 7 clinics total and all staff associated with the clinics that were terminated. Not surprised. I saw it coming. I knew at least two of the clinics were not sustainable. However, they were purchased as part of a package deal a MD was selling. Had to happen. One thing about healthcare, there are plenty of jobs available.

Can you clarify what you mean when you say "reduce the refund" for PCPs?

Wellmed has been bloated for years now. Trying to act like they aren't part of optum and playing by their own rules. They finally got the hammer and was long overdue.
