Thread regarding Qualcomm Inc. layoffs

They effectively said no layoffs for now at earnings

This is the quote so don't spread false rumors of march layoffs. Everyone get back to work (whether you work at Qualcomm or not). "the way we think about it is any hiring that we do will be very selective and focused on really acquiring new skills that are required for diversification. But other than that, we’ve gone through a reduction recently. We think we’re at scale to a large extent, and we’re committed to operating discipline."

@zwc+1qRsWS9J there's hardly any PIP at Q. Which is not a good thing as leads to many disgruntled low performing employees remaining and bringing the morale down. At any other place, their a#$ would be pip'ed so fast, there's no time to be bitter and hang around.

It all comes down to stock price. Pretty sure C suite were expecting a stock pop after an earning beat/raise when they made above statement in ER. We all saw what happened to stock, it’s a reminder how out of touch execs are with the market. If they can not sell the growth story then alternative is efficiency story i.e. further opex cuts. The only open question is timing of it.

@1yuv , you got it backwards. The ones impacted are the happy ones, they've moved on. You poor slobs still there and taking abuse from VPs with tiny eggrolls are the bitter ones.

OP there’s a 75% chance that those commenting about an apparent upcoming layoff have been impacted and are still bitter. So don’t feel the need to justify to them…

Q has always given ample lead time with layoff announcements. So there is always time to prepare if it happens. No reason to act like a cat on a hot tin roof before an announcement has even been made. Other companies are laying off left and right without prior notice.

IMO, "we're at scale to a large extent" sounds like they are done for the most part. If you are an underperformer or slacker, that's another thing. That's your problem and you will always be at risk for a PIP

Layoff all the hard working lab folks who kept the place going through covid and keep the lazy overpaid upper management who sit at the beach making up the layoff lists. Recipe for success!

"to a large extent" and "committed to operating discipline" sounds good, but does not actually exclude layoffs. Just the opposite. But of course, you don't know until they do it.
