Thread regarding Enbridge Inc. layoffs

General discussion

I know everyone is feeling a certain amount of tension, but if you’re personally not worried about the layoff where are you located (US, Canada, Ontario, ect) and what department are you in?

Are you wondering if people aren't worried because they've got a solid fallback plan, or they aren't worried because they think their job is secure?

There are people who suspect they are headed for the exit but they aren't worried about it. I would be one.

Depends where you are in your life and career. If you've been running your finances on the ragged edge, basically living cheque to cheque, then you'll probably be more stressed. Learn from it.

Also, you should be using every opportunity to get training for your future. ENB-U, courses, etc.., education reimbursement if you can - take it all. Take night courses. Take negotiation, coaching, financial training. Become an educational sponge.

If you do none of that, you've left money on the table. Your marketability after Enbridge is your responsibility - nobody else's.

I’m not worried I’m a white male senior leader. I’m in the minority. They would be discriminating against me to fire me. All the people of colour and women who were promoted for their gender and race need me to keep them safe as I have actual experience and knowledge.

Well, I've always been the type who plans the exact amount of milk needed for cereal to avoid surprises, so this whole 'unknown' thing is not my jam

Not worried as I managed my money well and can live with a minimum wage job while maintaining standard of living

The first boef got me set straight, the job at enb is never a sure thing. Never rely on it. Hopefully people learn and survivors wise the fu-k up and not rely on a corporate to keep you livelihood

I’ve still seen more layoffs under AM than GE…although he’s off to a roaring start.

Unionized field worker, GDS, in Ontario. Don’t have the slightest worry in the world.

I don’t think anyone feels safe this time. Operations has always been borderline immune to such moves. Not this time apparently. We’ve been told to expect reductions as well, this when we are already running with a skeleton crew in the GTA.

US - Field Tech.
Feeling safe as I can't think where they can get rid of more people since we are running pretty slim already. Maybe is a false sence of assurance but who knows.
