Thread regarding Macy's Inc. layoffs

Q1 decides our fate

Heard on multiple calls that we have to turn the ship around in Q1 due to hostile takeover. Given the current economy, a buyout seems like a possible outcome after May.

More layoffs will come, they are going to contract everyone to cheaper labor overseas, typical move from a C suite member that has a consulting background. No wonder why people don't respect them, they don't care about innovation or strategy, its all about cutting down the costs.

Sometimes...sometimes, there is an underlying message during earnings call (or cnbc interview)

I believe they do this to somehow cover their butt and not "contradict" their words to public.

I think earnings call is feb 22

Would they make such a decision over such a short about of time? Three months? Certainly growth over LY would look better but not be the only factor in this decision.

Is Q1 summer (may june july), can you please give any more insight for the calls your referring to? Were these calls in Corp offices , or Stores, was it an "incentive/ worker harder conversation...or a this is THE deal breaker?

I do agree with another post in thread, it is far too long for a 360 turnaround. Its just a matter of time unfortunately

“Vis-a-vis the current Super Bowl Budweiser ad that speaks to undoing the damage of a bad ad that pandering to a demographic isn't their customer. The ad is brilliant”
Yes but just like Macy’s too little too late for any kind of tangibal change IMO

Macy's is an iconic brand with deep roots as an American company. Clean up the stores, staff to the needs of the business and most importantly, bring back visual. Recent data shows that consumers are spending on experiences (restaurants, theater, concerts, etc) over 'things'. Give the consumer a reason to want to go into the stores, make them visual again. Secondly, it might not be a mistake to hire a top shelf marketing team to put together a TV campaign to change the perception of the company's image. Vis-a-vis the current Super Bowl Budweiser ad that speaks to undoing the damage of a bad ad that pandering to a demographic isn't their customer. The ad is brilliant. Elevate the stores, dump Backstage and start advertising to change the perception of the company. Or just keep doing what you're doing, take the money and run, and let the liquidators move in. JMHO.

We need a buyout. My store manager is awesome. Her boss came for a visit and you could see the stress on all their faces. I don’t think Tony can fix Jeff’s mistakes because he doesn’t think he made mistakes. We need a fresh outsider CEO.

They need to sink … stores are in deplorable condition. We look worse than a sears that has been abandoned for 10 years. Stop making everything private label you are losing customers over this .. WAKE UP Macys . Clean up the stores invest in profitable stores close non profitable stores . Be a destination. It a store where you can get a polo for 19.99 the will pill up the first time you wash it.
