Splunk has great products and they're used everywhere. SecOps and IT Ops can do a lot with them and people are going to get jobs using splunk for a long time to come. With Cisco maybe even more. The thing will be interesting to see is if companies want to keep paying 4x cost for a product that, well, can be replaced with cheaper alternatives....but you have to do a lot to build those tools out to what splunk already is.

Go to a shop that is using MSFT. Splunk has a huge footprint but it’s cause they were first on the block. Their products have not changed much and now sentinel and defender can pull all the logs in. I’m at a shop now and we pull tons of logs into msft products. Splunk got too rich and fat. My hope is that Cisco trims a lot but makes the r product actually more user friendly and not all the customizations for spl and dashboards and what not. There will be work for them for a while just cause it will take like a decade for customers to finally get out of the contracts and switch over. I am curious to know what Cisco will use their
Products for cause they could easily create their own log but prob wqnt the spl setup like crowdstrike has embedded. Splunk just too expensive for what you get out of it. Granted you can use it for more than security . Also. Hire a contractor. Don’t use splunk folks. They draw things out and just don’t nail down the business objectives. It’s all the “isn’t this neat?”

try to go to microsoft. they're hiring an army and their sentinel and defender tools are both beting scooped up by tons of companies. I am with a MSP for many companies that have MSFT first, C-strike second and then Splunk and Carbon Black. MSFT is killin the security game. It's a great way to leverage Azure knowledge and collab with the security tools. Believe me. Splunk may improve when they are all in with Cisco and Cisco cleans house, but TBD.

I mean. If you can get in an eng or SA or arch spot, go for it. get some money, probably lots of leftover tees, be careful who you get close to, get paid, maybe get some free cisco swag and if things get rough, ride out the layoffs. product is so embedded in legacy customers....it will take 20 years to get it out. it su-ks cause lots of customers do feel they are stuck. when I was there, my customers were using about 10% of it and then finally were like, "we dont really want to use much more of it....constantly needs to be customized...not much out of box" customers finally rea realizing there are other tools that are cheaper than splunk that do the same thing. heck. there are free tools you can beta test. culture also su-ks. lots of people smoking happy plants to make believe they matter. hahahahahahahaha. that cisco "re-org" gonna hit hard soon.

Splunk could let everyone go and hire interns and they would operate the same. Left while back. 90% frauds and 10% doing some tech dev ops work. Cisco is gonna clean house. Splunk talent vs Cisco talent is like your little league team playing the damn Yankees. I was there for like 3 years and it was total amateur hour. Total dopes in many areas. One dude was so cool he was vaping on our conf call. I’m like wow dude….vaping on cam is so cool when you’re like 45.

Joining skunk means joining crisco.
That's all good if you're under the DEI umbrella.

Just remember: when you get to crisco, an Indian will be made manager of your group and it's all downhill from there.

I've learn chating with some newbies the package they were offered with ooffering letter and it's 30% discount on the same positions hired back 1 year with an out of control inflation. Definitively it's a NO-GO for ppl willing to join and a bad sign for current headcount.

My advice, don’t. Their customers are dropping their tools like bad habits. If you know the security landscape even a little bit, splunk log or even their SIEM are bottom barrel and are the 3rd 4th choice. Worst culture of all time. Filth in mgmt.

You're effectively joining Cisco at this point, not Splunk. Unless it's early in your career and you're desperate for a "name" on your CV, steer clear. Posts on here should make it clear why.

If you currently have an stable job I'll stay away no matter how much they are offering you. Chances are you in a couple of months you are not going to be there to vest or cash the promissed perks. Their word right now worth nothing . I'll suggest you go first and read https://www.thelayoff.com/cisco-systems.
