Actually, the MDM registration can be skipped with some commands. The prompt of MDM when you are using it also can be disabled. The funny thing is that BC only pay the cost of express before Chinese new year in China. I am wondering if the laptop is not BC property after the new year? If the express fee was paid on arrival after the time, BC would reject to receive this expensive fancy Macbook Pro and sent back to you due to the fxxking express fee?
I sent mine back within a week. Instructions to send it back were online
I sent mine next day air Saturday delivery. I asked the FedEx guy what would be the most expensive method and it was that, cost about $350 and was billed to the vmware fedex account.
If it’s an older, Intel based mac, you can put bootcamp on it and run Windows. That will get you past Workspace One or any of the cr-p BC IT has put on it. This won’t work on the M1 or newer macs
But you have to run Windows. So there’s that.
I had a faulty laptop for two years before VMW/Oasis sent me an email requesting it's return which ironically was right before the acquisition. If I didn't return it, the fee listed in Oasis was around 2K. I would definitely return the laptop. New (Broadcom) return policy is:
VMware PC Returns - United States
To help facilitate the mandatory return of VMWare-owned equipment, follow the instructions below on how to ship them via Fedex. Do not leave the equipment at a VMWare or Broadcom office.
Please return any of the following equipment that you have been issued within 7 days of your separation:
● Electronic cards/badge
● Notebook/Laptop & A/C adapter
● Tablets & A/C adapter
● Desktops
● Corporate Mobile phone and accessories (chip), if applicable (only if on Litigation Hold)
● SD-WAN devices
● Power adapters for all devices
Go to a FedEx location and provide them with account: (redacted). They will box the laptop and accessories. If asked, please select standard ground for the shipping method and decline to add any insurance. The VMware account number is for FedEx in-store use only and will not work on FedEx.com for online label creation.
Ship the items to:
VMWare - Deployment Returns
3401 Hillview Avenue
Palo Alto, CA 94304
1-888-869-2738
Send an email to Oasis.returns@broadcom.com providing:
● Your name
● Mobile number
● FedEx tracking number
Please reach out to Oasis.returns@broadcom.com if you have any questions or concerns
regarding the hardware return process.
You need to contact your ex-manager and ask your ex-manager to submit hardware return ticket. BC will ship you box with return label via Fedex.
This is what I went through after I quit.
laptop is covered by DEP program from Apple ( by SN ) - so even you will swap logic board it will be VWM/BRCM property - and ask for login /password on OS installation
brick until they will remove it from DEP
Auto correct beat me
It sure you can = Not sure you can
It sure you can. When I left and tried that the MDM solution always reinstalled a managed OS. Or tried. As I didn’t have a valid login anymore it essentially turned into a brick. I think it either works by serial or MAC address so I am not sure wiping the drive completely first would work.
Don't just randomly send it back. You will make things confusing.
For how VMware did it, there is a ticket opened for hardware to be returned. That ticket has tracking on what equipment and where it should go. It's not always PA. I've had terminated employees who waited six months before being asked for their laptop back. It took that long for the tickets to open.
I cannot imagine it being any better organized at Broadcom during this transition.
Be professional and send it on your own to Palo Alto Oasis team.
Yes, use it. But be prepared to wipe it when they do ask you to send it back.
They are running a MDM solution and will track it and press charges and possibly take you to jail. Just kidding. Format the sh-t out of it and send HT a selfie using it.
I would.
Sure why not?
