Thread regarding Qualcomm Inc. layoffs

This is something, at least

At chip maker Qualcomm, the company requires that employees spend four days a week in its offices. CEO Cristiano Amon said he doesn’t see a need to change the policy to full-time in-office attendance.
“I feel like four days a week, five days a week is kind of the same right now,” he said.

Forcing everyone to work in office most of the week is a joke. Especially in cubicle farms when people next to you are yapping on Teams calls from their desk all day. Utterly distracting and a waste of time. If you want to come to office, go ahead, no need to drag people who work more efficiently at home.

Would be nice if the CEO enforced 4 day in office work week to EVERYONE in the C Suite. If they don’t follow it, how can it be expected for other employees to adhere to policy?

There's no point having RTO when you are going to force folks to have nightly meetings with the low cost centers as well. At that point you're working 12 hour days and coming to office.

I still think the industry is going through a decades-long culture change. Covid taught us that the technology is now good enough for remote work. This has made us realize that it's even easier to move work off-shore where labor is cheaper. "Foreign workers are not as good as we are" or "we're more productive when we are all in-office" may prove to be weak arguments, and will only get weaker over time.

Most large high tech companies are laying people off even though the economy is still strong.

Or maybe the truth is:
Most large high tech companies are laying people off because the economy is actually weak.

I don't think coming in to work all 5 days is unreasonable. Work from home and hybrid were due to covid which is long forgotten. Main thing is to keep your job. Most large high tech companies are laying people off even though the economy is still strong. If you feel otherwise, quit and try finding a job. You will regret it in this high tech job market.
