Zoom Layoffs Disguised as Reorg

It’s funny how in the All Hands our “leaders” talk about getting back to Zoom culture and how “care” is a core value and attempt to reassure the masses with sweeping statements of “no corporate wide layoffs in 2024”. Instead, behind the scenes entire orgs are let go, D&I de-prioritized, and more employees across the board for “restructuring” yet given zero opportunity or option to explore other roles internally. It’s very clear Zoom not only lacks CARE but also compassion for their employees. Some of us put a lot of personal care, time, and energy into our careers and to be part of a company we believe in only to be slapped in the face and reminded we’re just another cog in the machine.

With so much cash on the balance sheet I feel bad for whoever they’re gonna buy next.

The problem with zoom is not the bureaucratic nature and lack of startup culture. There’s enough people that still think that it’s a start up with over 6000 people and there’s no opportunity for growth in that reality and it’s lead basically buy a CEO that everyone seems to fear. There is no process. Very few people actually put process in place and people don’t like that. That’s the only way you scale. That’s the only way you’re able to do more with less. There are tons of politics in my gut tells me they’re always have been. But everyone’s fearful of the man at the top who’s going to ruin his fortune fingers crossed. I believe the culture was always this way. However, when things are going really well people don’t realize it and they’re just happy. No one really managed the business. Well, except the kids that started and made millions.

Zoom seems to have embraced the failed Avaya business model. Zoom has lost the entrepreneurial vision and embraced the bureaucratic business process that stifles customer and employee satisfaction. Dissatisfaction is growing!

So we are focused on international growth, but then we let the Latin American team go? Did we also let people go in APAC & EMEA?

Unfortunately, the LATAM sales team was affected yesterday as well.

Does anyone know the figures on this last round of layoffs (at fiscal year end no less)? I counted 15 US employees today (at least 3 last week). My guess is a total of 25 or so, hitting now only DEI but also the reseller channel team and the Programs teams that support the resellers.

Eric’s messages today in Zoomie Life are beyond ridiculous. That he lays responsibility for these decisions on because he “expect[s] each department leader to manage their teams on a consistent and regular basis to make sure they are as productive and efficient as possible and that every role is a sustainable one” is both a load of sh-t and a forfeiture of his responsibilities as CEO. The buck stops with him and he is ultimately responsible for every decision his department leaders make.

Sadly, this is the third layoff in the month of January. I call them silent layoffs. The one thing that they’re doing is ensuring that they don’t lay off a large percent of the staff at one time in order for them to announce it publicly and have certain rules that would apply. Led by a bro culture and tech CEO who wishes everyone would be following suit to the Chinese culture even though he is here in America making billions.

This is Zoom! As someone who left last year I’m glad to gone. In another note, they treat the majority of their employees terribly as well as the majority of customer and partners. Don’t do business with them!
