@1rjz+1qQAjByV I saw, I'm looking for confirmation of that or if there's additional info.

@1rjz+1qQAjByV Someone posted below: “You are ineligible to qualify as remote if you are a talent concern (PIP), if 50% or more of your team is all in one office, or if you have been at Dell for less than 3 years.”

@1krx+1qQAjByV Thank you for posting additional details. Do you have any information on which employees will be eligible to be opt into remote status?

Highlights include:

  • the creation of a couple classes of employees (hybrid, field, sales, etc)
  • your average employee (engineers, etc) will initially be classified as hybrid
  • hybrid employees will be expected to be in the office 39 days a quarter. Failure to comply will be a policy violation subject to disciplinary action
  • employees will have a chance to classify themselves as remote, and these employees will not be subject to the 39 day mandate. However, they will not be eligible for promotions or internal transfers without reclassifying as hybrid.

Basically, come back or your career is dead.

Yep was just told 39 days a quarter vacation days are taken into account in the calculation. Details in the email on Monday.

i'd expect we'll get some sort of "our success/culture is built on relationships......relationships are better/stronger when we are in person..." type justification

There is no accountability at Dell, that’s why management have tenure and everyone else suffers

We can only hope that’s what happens, but likely they will be tracking place to hold the managers accountable for their employees compliance by restricting their bonuses or opportunities, etc. of course I hope common sense prevails and there will be work arounds available depending on your manager.

IMO it depends on your leadership and their ability to justify why someone does or does not need to come into the office—and are willing to stand behind it. Not penalizing future growth, pay or LTI.

Lackey managers will require you to come in while true leaders will find a way to keep top talent working from wherever makes sense. Move under one of the few good managers at Dell. stressing few for a reason. Those who work for them know who they are.

I was given approval for my move during covid by HR and my manager. No office where I am. I don't see how they can go back on that legally.

Official announcement goes out Monday 2/5. My manager wouldn't provide details other than something is coming. A colleague who works in an entirely different org also had confirmation from their manager, but wasn't provided details, either.

If offered I think I’d take the severance and run far away cause this is absolutely bonkers.

I have a Dell office nearby but my team is based out of Boston / Austin.

Is my understanding correct that I will be asked to move to one of these cities? If yes, how long will i have been given to relocate or will that be immediate?

@vik+1qQAjByV Not in my contract, just read it line for line. Never would have signed if it that were the case anyhow. All it says is remote and I'm not even in the same state as the nearest office.

If they want to lay me off, sure, I'll take it.

i wonder if all the people who choose the one time remote option are at the top of the list for the next round of layoffs

Hold on for as long as possible. This is another half baked attempt to get people to quit. Make the brain dead b-ms at the top pay you severance.

@lvi+1qQAjByV - Unfortunately in your contract, it does state that companies can ask you to relocate if your work requires as such.

Anyone who was hired as remote will have it on their contract as remote. Would have to request people to sign a new contract I assume. Dell can't have it both ways when it suits them.

If there’s an opt out option I’m taking it. Literally live in another state from all my teammates. I’m not commuting in to sit on zoom meetings all day

My leader mentioned they are getting an assigned cube in Round Rock. Are we all going to have assigned cubes? I would be more inclined to come in to my own desk, with (mostly) my own germs all over it, and set up the way I need to work :) I’ve been wfh for 12ish years so it’s a major shift for me, but of course my name isn’t on the building…

When does this become effective, how long do you have to choose? Also what about locations that physically don’t have enough seats to support everyone being hybrid, will they be seeking new office space and giving a longer lead time to elect what you want to do?

Dublin has been 3 days for some teams for roughly a year.
The canteen never really returned to what it was and most people work better from home.
Also with the mood being what it is and moral in the bin its really toxic across the sales floor.

How does PTO not factor in? Are they going to pro rate the 39 days then? Or just you 11 weeks instead of 12 to do 39 days? Same thing with the last week of quarter when we never go in? So 10 weeks to do 39 days? Makes no sense.

Pretty sure SVP/VP exempt from this mandate. Only those who were fully remote (before covid even) who are rooted in their community with kids in schools will be punished.

What are they going to do with the offices they downsized? Office I am in, no way are you going to get everyone in 3 days a week, there is not enough desks!

"They should just offer separation agreements to those who don’t want this."

That's the thing: they are banking on people leaving on their own so Dell doesn't have to pay severance. I'm not sure they've calculated the cost of losing top talent and impaired company Brand image- or they have and don't care. Play Nice But Win, amirite?

So what happens if you can't relocate and you are only in dell one year

by

Post ID: @bmu+1qQAjByV

I was told they wouldn’t be offering relocation at all and that it would be on your own dime. Wouldn’t surprise me.

PTO doesn't factor into the 39 days negatively. So, if you are supposed to be in the office 39 days per quarter and you take a week off, you don't need to "make up" those days. They'll be enforcing all of this by checking badge-ins. Failure to meet the 39 day quota will hit you on your performance review. Also interesting: you are ineligible to qualify as remote if you are a talent concern (PIP), if 50% or more of your team is all in one office, or if you have been at Dell for less than 3 years. Also, it's heavily implied that all consideration for bonuses/merit increase will favour the people who are hybrid over remote employees.

another confirmation as well, some will also get offered relocation packages to move near an office

if I am fully remote then do I need to do any work? all I want is to be able to wfh and get paid until I retire. i don't really need to do work or get a promotopn.

What about the fact that every quarter end we don’t come into the office. That’s a week off. So between that and any PTO are we looking now at like 4 times per week in office? That’s ridiculous. So much for flexibility. This company is a joke.
