Thread regarding Macy's Inc. layoffs

June / July 2024

Hi!

In a post I read in another thread, someone mentioned that Manager roles at 100K + to be the most costly.
Ironically my direct boss mentioned something to this effect as well last week, not knowing she was probably "over sharing" with me, as I am that role.
To be clear I am already looking despite that or not, Macys just seems like a dead end no matter what cuts they think could revive it.

Do we think there is a possibility of round 2 in June / July of this year?

In the past Macy's had cuts in summer, if I'm not mistaken it happen like 10 years ago. Back then this happen in the beginning of the year and summer.

Store directors are probably next. You still need a Store Manager

At that rate it's store managers, not the rest of them, unless it's in a high premium market. No one is going to cut management going into fall season and Christmas. It happened in 2020 but that was COVID driven, and I actually heard a regional high up state that those layoffs were a mistake because of the turnaround in business that happened that Christmas and in 2021

They do cuts in august for people who been there for 30 years or 20 years.. its their way of unloading the cost and getting someone younger for less

Mass layoffs often hit middle managers. The cuts are largely short-sighted
