Thread regarding Enbridge Inc. layoffs

Don’t believe the hype- Job market is tough

I know people looking for one YEAR and cannot get a comparable job with equal pay and benefits.
The closest is 20% less.

Are you hearing the same thing?

Aha you got 2 emails back saying that your application had been received 😂😂😂

Scan other forums, read news on layoffs across Canada and US and widen your reading horizons and you’ll know that this market is tough.

I've applied to 3 jobs since my last post...yesterday...

2 emails and a voice-mail looking to schedule an interview ( in person too!!! None of that ENB virtual drivel 😆)

Trust me plenty of work out there for people with real skills. To the a-s kissers and bag lickers, I'm sure some swanky movie sets could use some fluffers

Then entered an optimistic bunch who hasn’t tried applying for any job outside Enbridge for years. I dare you try applying outside Enbridge, just to test if you can even get an interview. C’mon just apply and let us know.

Might be a tough market for the pretenders at ENB, but technical/trades/etc work for anyone who's willing. Pays the same, might be time trade loafers for boots. Plus we're pushing for gender equality, come on outside, the weather is fine

To the last reply: Did you even try applying for anything lately? Try applying for at least 10 jobs and let us know if you can actually get at least an interview. There are so many out there now that will compete with you that has way more education, experience and skills than you. Not unless you’re living under the rock you will not know how weird this job market now. It’s all about efficiency and cost savings.

Tough market? For what sector? What business unit? if you are having a hard time finding work, maybe it's not the work that is the issue....plenty of work out here in AB

It’s a case to case basis, if you’re in tech related job the layoffs had been non stop since last year. Some people go from a year to two years with no job yet. It’s like a reflection of oil and gas - over hiring during bo-m times and now trimming to streamline and stabilize costs. It doesn’t need very much nudging from activist investors for any company to look at their manpower costs. I knew some people who got laid off from Enbridge between 2015 to 2019 that wasn’t able to land any related jobs and one did not get a job until 2.5yrs later. I also knew people within oil and gas industry that were not able to come back to any related work at all and since they’re older they either shift to another type of work outside the industry or just sort of retire. I knew 2 people in finance who got laid off and was able to land a job few months after but 20% less than they used to make in Enbridge. I also knew some who were able to land a job where they were able to significantly progress the ladder by now (manager, director).

If you really want to get out if Enbridge now is the right time to apply while you still have a job and test the market. See how much you can get and since you still have a job you can negotiate better. Most often if you got laid off and cannot land a job and you get impatient and depressed about your situation chances are you accept a lower paying job especially when the economy tanks as reflected with massive layoffs across industries.

The layoffs is becoming normal in this industry so it’s up to you if this is what you really want. Again, it’s a case to case basis so do what’s best for you.

Job market is tight, but from the recruiters that have reached out to me if I were to entertain a move I could expect the move to be flat to a 20% bump in base pay. STIP would likely be a size able decrease.
