Thread regarding Enbridge Inc. layoffs

Why a month's notice?

Someone, please explain the thought process for today's email. I'm all for transparency but to put everyone on high alert for the next month? Lots of people were already super anxious, and now even those who were blissfully unaware are panicked.

The layoffs were announced in the media. It's a form of pre-emptive damage control in the market. It's not more nefarious than that. Only a fool would quit with a buy-out looming.

Nope. Happening on one day enterprise wide. Before being catty and arrogant about reading comprehension, maybe think that some people have access to documents you don't.

The layoffs are all happening in a single mystery day before March 1st. All employees will receive an email the day before to effectively provide a day’s notice to be on standby the next day to see if you are on the list. All layoffs will happen remotely unlike the 2018 round. This is what our teams were told today.

Enbridge reports in 4th quarter results next Friday. This had to be either announced or done before that date. Preference would have been to have it done by now but there were issues with groups being unable to meet the deadline. Hence the preannouncement. The same thing happened during BOEF. At that time they were dam near pulling names out of a hat near the end to meet the timelines. It's an extremely top-heavy political organization and nothing happens without a bunch of levels approving it. You can't order a roll of toilet paper with VP approval.

BTW i know people who had no pay increases for ages, so Enbridge was actually pretty generous with increases and stips until now durring covid times and so one. If you did not like it why stay!? You all have a choice, if you dont like where you work why dont you quit, or didnt you quit, ?! I still think Enbridge is great so far, and see future in the company too still, upds and downs comes in every company amd if they manage to do it right eventually good employees who get lay off now, will be called back again, seen it not once. I am grateful to work here and so grateful for my team, best so far I worked in.

Its not a month, lay offs starts next week going into March, read and start understanding what you read please.
Those negatives out there , sounds like you hate the company so why didnt you quit by now!? If you so negative about this thats mean you are not happy where you work, so move on , have a life, and stop the negativity,

To get people more anxious and stressed out coz it’s fun?

Since layoffs started back in 2015 the message from my friendly people leader who thinks she owns the company is “we’re lucky to have a job”. I really hope they reduce the number of supervisors and managers. Front like workers do the bulk of work anyway.

So when they tell the affected that they are gone in a couple of days they can say they gave you a month's notice. I would assume they would pay the affected ones for that month (on top of any severance) but they could be walking them out the door rather immediately. By having those affected folks on the payroll for the next month they technically would not be misleading by saying the layoffs will happen over the next month.

A consultant told them that was the safest way to do it

It’s raise season, employees have complained for years over poor raises, this year the response will be you are lucky to still have a job

Warn act requires 60 day notice, so it seems it’s just a way to get people worked up.
