Thread regarding 3M layoffs

Earned the right? What a terrible line!

One line after another of distasteful comments. Leaner and stronger?? What? Earned the right? No MR. No way!

How has 3M “earned the right” to do any better than we are doing now?

  1. We’ve brought in another GE guy running much of the company even though we are still struggling from the consequences imposed 24 years ago by JM on our innovative culture. MP’s only talent is sharpening his pencil and slashing people and budgets.
  2. We are spinning off 25% of the business to protect the assets from legal settlements.
  3. We’ve lost incredible talent from layoffs and from people leaving because of the sense of hopelessness and frustration.
  4. Our sales and marketing teams have been slashed.
  5. Our R&D has been cut.
  6. Employee morale is at an all time low.
  7. Executive turnover has never been higher.
  8. We bragged about 5 of our 11 board members not being on our board 5 years ago.
  9. Continuing to manufacture “forever chemicals” long after we knew of their problems.
  10. The proposed Belgium “security wall” of contaminated dirt.
  11. Unethical decisions being made to try to get our DEI numbers where they should be.
  12. With failed acquisition after failed acquisition, we bring in KCI as our largest acquisition ever.

When was the last time you heard what percent of sales were spent on R&D? What percent of sales came from products that didn’t exist 5 years ago? Instead we are hearing about cash flow. How in the world have we earned the right to anything more than we are getting? My golden handcuffs are keeping me here just a few more years. It seems to get harder everyday.

People still clap at these town halls? What is there to clap for?

Honestly I would take any of the VPs that spoke today over MR. They were all spewing the corporate lines but at least they spoke to us like humans

“We don’t need to win back employees” was this really said? WOW! Talk about a great way further tank morale. Amazing…

I will say, good luck keeping that ones you have!

My favorite part was the facilitator of the round table showing us a slide with a picture on it and explaining for 5 minutes how she loves imagery on slides and how that slide so clearly exemplified every going on at 3M. Apparently the job of an executive at this new, forward thinking 3M is still to make fancy looking slides and talk about them without really saying anything. What was that quote about “doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result”?

we don't need to win back employees. We need to win forward employees. The world has changed....

Some pretty deep philosophy there !

Let me spend the rest of the day trying to understand what that might mean and how I can be a forward employee for 3M.

Crazy when this VP leadership team seems to be looking for leadership to guide them.

Doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results? That has been cut after cut, year after year

"we don't need to win back employees. We need to win forward employees. The world has changed."

The look on his face when he said that. Thought he was so clever 😂

Need to be really high on your own farts to be that proud of yourself after that world salad.

Typical town hall, recycling words but saying nothing long enough to take questions you can’t answer.

...this is projectile jargon. Enough forward momentum nonsense, time to advance employee morale. No-confidence in leadership is real, recognize that!

Nothing new here. Same words put in different order. What about the people? The employees. This does not inspire me.

Unwavering integrity? Like letting employees go less than 12 months from retirement?
