Thread regarding Dish Network layoffs

New Round of Boost Mobile/Dish Wireless Layoffs @157 Jobs Coming in March 2024

More layoffs already in early 2024 is a sure tipoff that financial & market results are already trending negative. I feel for my old Boost Mobile co-workers who have to endure yet another round of cutbacks in this terrible company. Unfortunately it's to be expected from here forward until Dish/EchoStar eventually goes belly up.

Dish laying off nearly 160 workers in wireless division

Dish Network is implementing a fresh round of layoffs that will impact nearly 160 workers at its corporate campus near Denver.

The layoffs were first made public in a notice filed with Colorado’s Department of Labor and Employment earlier this month, in which Dish affirmed it would let go of 157 employees.

Most of the impacted positions will be in Dish Wireless, its fledgling startup telecom that incorporates elements of its Boost Mobile business acquired from T-Mobile several years ago.

The job losses include around 80 senior-level representatives at Dish Wireless and more than two dozen customer service and technology representatives, Dish said.

Dish expects the layoffs to be completed by early March.

The pink slips are the first to be issued since Dish Network merged with its former parent company, Echostar. The merger was finalized at the start of the year, with the combined business employing around 14,000 workers.

Prior to the merger, Dish Network laid off nearly 500 employees across its business, which includes the flagship satellite service and its streaming product Sling TV.

Got the call on 1/8. That my position was eliminated, and that day would be my last day of work and that I’d receive a oay check until 3/8, and that my final check would included any unused accrued paid time off.

I heard they were only paid through the date that they were walked out the door. No severance or "staying on payroll". I don't know for sure if that's the case though. I'd love for someone to confirm.

Re the question about "laid off right away" vs the warn act 2 month notice : they are telling people they're laid off and escorting them out immediately, but keeping them on payroll for 2 months. So in layman's terms, most people would describe that as "I got laid off with 2 months severance" but for legal purposes, you technically were informed 2 months before you were laid off.

How is it possible they were let go right away? The WARN notice gives employees 2 months or so I thought.

Should I join Dish as Staff Software Engineer? I heard Dish had many layoffs. TC is 175,000 which is around 45k more than my current job.

These people were let go almost immediately after the filing.
