Thread regarding American Airlines Group Inc. layoffs

American Airlines

American Airlines just terminated all 700 customer service employees between Dallas and Phoenix hubs. They are restructuring this department into a 150 employee workforce split between Dallas and Phoenix. Terminated employees will be given the opportunity to reapply for positions within the new customer service department. Surprising news after a record profit year for 2023.

Is this related to AI replacing the jobs? Or is it just moving the jobs out of the country?

651 employees were on the call. 300 out of PHX and 351 out of DFW. They will have until the end of March to find a new position within the company and those employees will be given pref treatment to fill any open positions within other departments. They will however be keeping 150 positions and of the current 651 given notice, they can apply for one of the new group of 150 positions. Every non-union department within AA should immediately start to either form or join an existing Union. That's the only thing protecting Res right now. But if the number of Res agents shrink much further, the Company will be allowed to outsource the open positions, which will just be the entry point the company needs to restructure Res and outsource most of it.

Truly disgusting leadership, customer relations has been run into the ground since new "leadership" took over. We begged for a union...those who vetoed the option.. look where that got you. Record breaking profits we helped get the company and we're out on our as--s for them to outsource customer retention. This is a terrible Move for the company and I hope it bites you. Our customers are already complaining about the terrible customer service provided by Port of Spain, let's give them more work... plain disgusting

I don’t know why everyone is saying it’s a shock. You were warned by many employees at your town hall and state of the airline that this was going to happen. You were encouraged to fight for a union and everyone said oh no we will be fine. You believed your leadership cared about you. This department has several employees put their own jobs and livelihood at risk to try to help you all out and fight for you and everyone turned their back on them and praised the ones who just took everything from you. No corporate leader cares about their employees. Your directors nephew runs the Port of Spain office. Those workers get 1/4 what you make and so they can work 4 for the price of 1. It’s no shock what they decided to do. What’s a shock is they didn’t do it sooner.

They told us today out of blue in a 5 min meeting which shocked us all. Answered no questions and just left us high and dry to deal with our emotions. Some of us have been at this job for decades and all it took was one 5 min meeting to destroy our lives.
