Thread regarding Nielsen layoffs

January 2023 Layoff

Almost all senior leadership (C levels) is aware of the number and role of individuals moving offshore. The policy dictates that they respond with "I don't know" to their direct reports for now.

The scale of the replacement is significant but "How" part still under discussion. Offshoring will occur in different waves across various groups and departments in 2024. First start with the US, then Europe in parallel

Employees will be presented with two options:

  1. Stay and facilitate knowledge transfer to their replacements at the hub centers, in exchange for a severance package

or B) to be let go with standard notice period and without severance.

(Pure carrot-and-stick approach)

The fate of ongoing and upcoming projects remains uncertain. Eliot appears indifferent, and senior management seems to be pretending that no negative consequences will arise, so take it as a BAU.

do NOT trash Nielsen with your name attached. Don’t risk losing severance.

Everyone go to glassdoor and give this cr-ppy company 1 star. Also take every opportunity to trash them online, you can do it anonymously if you don't feel comfortable revealing your name. Nielsen shouldn't go unpunished for how they are treating their employees.

"Why did they announce offshoring without figuring out the details first?"

Also because there was a leak to new outlets who were planning to publish articles. If that didn't happen they probably wouldn't have announced anything internally yet.

if leadership knows who is getting cut but can't say, what are they even going to tell us in the q&a this week? What's the point? To torture us more?

“Why did they announce offshoring without figuring out the details first?”

To increase attrition. They pay less severance if more people leave on their own.

They have already outsourced in engineering to places like Slovenia with awful results. I think they found a new and cheaper place to outsource and I predict even worse results.

Nielsen does not care about projects, products, innovation, etc... I don't even have any hopes on severance.

i believe they’re going to offer severance across the board, the staying difference would be your salary until your final day or projects complete or training completes and then severance kicks in.

In Europe there is no option to be let go without severance, so that plan is not possible.
