Announcement came out today 650 people being let go by march 1
When you’re emotionally not well it’s not a good idea to come to this site for more fear mongering. It’s good to get some idea of general atmosphere but there’s really nothing you can do if you get laid off.
If you’ve been working for Enbridge for quite some time you should already know that layoffs had been happening (some in larger scale, some are targeted areas) since 2015. You have to approach this is on a more level headed space.
You might not totally avoid losing sleep at all but you can make yourself be more prepared just in case you become a casualty on the next round of layoff. Review all your expenses (you might be able to trim some), stash some funds that will cover your expenses up to a year and start updating your resume. Or you can keep on whining about how the top executives makes way more than most of us. That’s always the case by the way wherever you work.
Based on experience of people I spoke to who were casualties of layoff, the emotional impact is already hard enough to deal with but being financially ready is another aspect that will lessen the burden. At the end of the day, you take care of yourself.
You can blame management for these layoffs but they will do whatever they need to do to for the company to be more profitable and resilient of economic cycles and I think everyone should do the same for their own households.
Announcements tomorrow
Tomorrow eh? That’s weird. I have a friend in another department that said she’s been told there’s a mandatory meeting tomorrow. What’s going on??
You will find out tmr
Bird is the word.
Im not sure there truly is one. No one seems to know a date or what exactly is going on. I’ve heard early Feb to as late April. Have heard everything from existing vacancies and a number of packages offered all the way to hack and slash no one is safe. So many people are stating opinion and rumour as fact that it’s hard to believe anybody.
Honestly the waiting and rumours are probably more damaging than the cuts will be when it comes to people’s mental health. I’ve never seen mórale this low!
