Thread regarding 3M layoffs

Does anyone think 3M is still engaging in cornyism and nepotism when it comes to promotions or hiring?

I used to hear 3M only hired and promoted 3M families or people that all were related worked in the same departments and it was terrible back then. Do you think this goes on?

I completely agree. I know multiple managers in TEBG of an certain ethnicity who rose to their current positions because of blessings from AK.

I know one of those managers also got the boot last year when EMSD layoffs were announced and thanks to AK, he was able to find a comparable job at the same level.

AK really took good care of his chosen people !

100% The worst offender (that I saw) was Ashish, He's gone off to ruin another company. His second favorite monkey, Ming Cheng is doing the same damn thing. It makes me sick.

OMG yes. Plant recently hired a completely unqualified person in EHS because they are the kid of a good friend of the Plant manager. It happens constantly and just results in worse performance and forcing out of people you actually want to stay at the company.

Absolutely!!! While hiring freezes are in effect at the plant production levels with impending cuts due to PFAS exit , they are creating roles to save certain workers and remove them from the PFAS umbrella that would have otherwise have affected them. Supervisors now have basically assistants to go along with work area coaches . Make it make sense , a general supervisor, an area supervisor, a temporary supervisor, a coach and a process tech all for a crew of maybe 10 people.
In the past it was a general supervisor, a supervisor and a coach for an entire operation across 4 crews . Magically less work, less people and added layers. Cronyism at its finest to say the least

Nepotism in hiring....not much....
a few here and there.

Some managers insist on hiring only from select colleges of their choice based on their own biased perceptions.

Nepotism in promotions....very much so. It has gotten much worse over the last 10 years or so. Unless your manager or manager' s boss likes you, you will never get promoted or promotions will get delayed, even though your credentials and achievements are top notch.

Coming from an academic environment where merit based processes are very well enforced, you will be shocked when you experience nepotism and favoritism in 3M promotions....it is simply off the charts.

Family hires of a well performing worker bee that I’ve witnessed have generally worked out pretty good. Never witnessed the kid of a high level executive ram rodded in.
