Who are the pro citi naysayers? The naysayer group are wide and varying. Composed of HR plants, prideful managers, koolaid drinkers, and brown noser’s.
Why are they hardcore pro citi naysayers on this board? I believe most of it can fall into two main buckets.
Bucket #1: They want you to go, but on their schedule. Especially the MD. Leave but only when Citi is ready for you to leave. If you leave Citi too soon, we may not be ready. So they shoot down any post of encouragement when it comes to moving on and down play the post that shine a light on all things wrong with Citi.
Bucket #2: Misery loves company. Many are used to the status quo. Some may even want to leave but are fearful of change. Fearful of failure or rejection from other companies. Often commonly met with: “no use to try” “too many applicants, not enough jobs” “every other place in the world is just like Citi”. When you do get an interview invite you hear: “OMG they probably want you to drive there for a face to face” “now you have to dress up” “OMG now you have to find a place to park, too much hassle, might as well turn it down” “they probably won’t pay well, so don’t even try”
Advice: They thrive on the rhetoric, they thrive on the response. A response shows that you thought enough about their comment to reply and it encourages them. Simply put, don’t acknowledge them, don’t respond. More importantly, don’t take heed to what they say. Do what’s best for you and your family. If that’s staying with Citi, then so be it. If it’s moving on to greener pastures, fortune favors the bold and believe in yourself more than what the naysayers would have you think.
Yes the job market is sparse…..FOR NOW….this is not be the norm going forward for the rest of eternity. As a matter of fact THE JOB MARKET WAS SPARSE WHEN MOST OF US HIRED ON WITH CITI and we still landed a job. I know it was for me. The job market IS recovering and is getting better. Ignore the naysayers, mull over your options, re-enforce your resolve and solidify it with careful planning whether you stay with Citi or chose to move on.
