Thread regarding VMware layoffs

Shady way doing settlement agreement

I’m shocked that BC have one person dealing with alot of emea redundancies. Explains all the fxxx up but them. BC and HT king of making people redundant should know by the redundancy process by now!! Why are people in Ireland getting 6wks for each year of service and uk is only getting 4wks?? Why does HC want all the laptops back, is he short of money though he had endless RSUs. That man needs to go back to school and learn how to treat people with kindness and the teach his leadership team the meaning of empathy!!!

I only need a magic 8 ball to do redundancy as 10% of my job responsibilities, let’s not overthink this.

Redundancy laws are per country and nothing to do with being in or out of the EU. The UK has always (even when part of the EU) had weaker employment regulation than most other European countries which you could argue makes it a more attractive place for business to invest (versus countries where it takes 2 years to get rid of people).

What Broadcom are offering UK employees is way above UK legal minimum which is 1 week per year (capped at £643 per week which is way lower than what most people at VMware are actually earning).

Broadcom agreed to go with each countries policy, since Ireland and UK didn't have published policies they went with precedent. Since there had been no recent major UK redundancies the only recent precedent was 4 weeks per year (based on your actual uncapped weekly salary including bonus).

In Ireland there had been (within the last few years) a large number of layoffs as roles were moved to Barcelona. People let go as part of that process (which affected Ireland only and not UK) were offered generous severance terms (6 weeks per year) which Broadcom are now matching.

The EU has very favorable severances. The UK didn't want to be part of the EU anymore. So, you get what you got. The rest of this is just you completely lacking understanding of how businesses work. Laptops are leased direct from Apple and Dell and must be disposed back after three years to retain tax credits.

None of this has to do with HT. This is just how things work. Channel that energy into learning the structure so you can discover who really to blame.

Only need 1 person to do redundancy mgmt. Is pretty? No? Is humane no? Doesn’t work. Yes.
Get over it.
