@1gdd I think you forgot Vena was directly involved in the damage caused from the previous CEO. Most would say he played the biggest part in it. DO NOT under any circumstance exclude Vena from this mess that was directly caused by his PSR decisions. What is he trying to turn around? Go look up the UP revenues before and after PSR Vena. The UP posted record profits BEFORE he showed up and the UP's decision to run with PSR. You ever wonder why other railroads got away from the layoffs and the UP didn't? The other railroads soon realized that laying off people tends to be less productive from a numbers standpoint. When you have less, you produce less! Vena took the UP and Fritz down a road that got them into trouble with government. Fritz ultimately paid for it with his job. Ask your self why H. Harrison was made a 4 time CEO. He was brought in to cut costs and ki-l jobs as quickly as possible to boost the numbers for a quicker return on profits. Now that the majority of those class 1's got away from the idea that less is more, they're now doing better than the UP. Huh, I wonder why that is. The last time I checked Fritz wasn't involved at those RR's. I really don't think giving the UP employees fifteen minutes alone with Vena would be a good idea at all either. There's just too many people that don't like him at all, and some of those people lost good friends and co-workers because of him.
@1gdd how is "he" trying turn UP around? Did you read he cut the track project budget? So UP is planning on doing LESS(!) much needed repairs and replacement than last year. All he is doing is delay delay delay costs, and when UP suffers failures from more (read: not less) from neglect and deferring more obvious infrastructure deficiencies at that time he will just deny deny deny. Some spokesperson will say (but not do) that safety is #1 and UP has a buffer, enough head count, just lie lie lie some more. This whole "we are waiting for more car loadings THEN we will hire more people" is just said to placate the over burdened employees still here that one day it'll get better.
yes sad thing is he is trying to turn this place around and past leadership has has done so much damage he has long hard road ahead.
I wish he would spend 3 days in houston with open door policy and let workers have 15 minutes with him.I guarantee he would clean house. And all these rules just slow progress down.
Proviso, same thing. UP way just putt a lipstick on a pig.
