Thread regarding Optum layoffs

Salary and Latest RRP by Grade

It's easy too fall behind newer peers when you have been in a position for years. What grade are you? What is your latest salary and RRP amounts? You can give a range if you don't want to be exact. Lastly, if you have worked for a competitor, did you notice that the competitor salary/bonus package was better for a lateral move?

Example:

  1. Grade 29
  2. Salary around $115K-$120K
  3. Bonus around $15K-$20K
  4. Unsure on competitor piece

The comments are not making much sense. I just received a written offer for 165K base. I was told I am Grade 29 by recruiter. I was initially offered 150k, I asked for 170k as my skills are in demand (advanced AI cloud IT stuff). We settled at 165K base. Are the ranges different based on IT or Medical staff etc?

it's not impossible. given they received market adjustment as well as regular merit and live in a city with high col, it's entirely reasonable

To poster 2dma+1qLgqALw, what does RSU mean in your statement? RRP is the rewarding results program aka bonuses but RSU = restricted stock units which may be awarded to top performers and the last cycle was not a % of the employee’s salary in my division. Most folks were awarded 5k in RSU and 5k in unrestricted shares. The higher grades of course are awarded considerably more shares as part of their overall compensation package

To the person that said you can literally look up grades and ranges, that’s the whole point of this discussion. I manage a team of grade 27 all remote with salary ranges of 70k-97k. And for RRP, they can get as low as 1k to as much as 5600k. If you are that person getting paid 20k less a year then your coworkers doing the same job, transparency would actually help the employee more. The higher salaried are the ones that more recently came from outside the company. The employees that came from internal, are sadly still at the lower range. It’s not equitable.

To see your grade, go to GSS, click on manage/view your job information. There should be links to view your job info that lists your grade and hire date.

Salary ranges are complete bullsh-t. I was originally hired at grade level 23 and transferred to grade 27 this past year. My range penetration is literally -4.4%. I’m not even paid what the salary range indicates for my area and non of my mangers can say anything other than ‘you’re being paid the market rate’.

You can literally look up salary ranges on sparq for every pay grade and based off location. For RSU just figure 6% of salary then hope it’s not cut more and that you got a good year end rating, otherwise you’re lucking to get maybe 80% of that 6%

They let anyone advance into higher roles and it shows. It's a real sh---t show and everyday both the employees and the customer are extremely pi___sd. Makes you wonder how they stay in business.

Grade 29
Salary - $120k
Bonus based on last year - 25k but my manager told me to expect less this year
Competitors- worked for a prestigious hospital system in CA for the same salary but they matched 7% for 401k.
Chose this company because I got tired of commuting. I prefer a decrease in retirement for full time remote.

This is going to really depend on what org you work for and your title. I would suggest visiting Glassdoor and levels website for this information as it will be more accurate.

In short, moving laterally in a company will almost always put you at a disadvantage. If you truly want to move up in pay you need to move out of your company. I hate that you have to do that but in this day and age it’s the only way to get a decent raise.

You will see that a competitor will offer at least a 20% raise depending on your skills and the company you apply for. Even startups offer better pay and free UHC Platinum Health plans that have $200 deductibles and they cover premiums. If you’re technical and really good at your job (not just Optum good) tech companies pay much more.

Here’s the down side, hopping too often can look bad on a resume so I suggest at least 2 years of service. Another thing is, Optum is the devil you know, there is no guarantee that your next company will be any better (but don’t let this stop you).

Nobody feels bad for you if you’re making 140k+. Go find a new place to work if it’s that bad.
