Thread regarding Staples Inc. layoffs

Ageist?

I don’t work here anymore, but most of the LinkedIn posts I’ve seen regarding layoffs are from middle aged employees who’ve been with the company for 20+ years. This is how the layoffs went when I was with the company, so seems like nothing has changed. What are your thoughts on this?

Also how is staples still is business.

This confirms SLT does monitor. Makes me LOL. I can assure you many of the tenured folks that have been let go over the past several years, were your most loyal your most experienced and your top performers. And most everyone is thriving post Staples with work life balance and majority making more money and actually being appreciated for their value again. Life is good. Agree there are poor performers that can get eliminated at the same time but don’t you dare disrespect those that kicked you know what for the company for more years than some of you were born. Show some respect. If you can’t handle the truth stay off the site this is for real venting and callouts of abuse and bad strategy.

Instead of the constant complaining it might be a better idea to take a closer look in the mirror and perform in your role. 90% of the dead beats who post on here were not effective. Come on here to point fingers and not accept any accountability. You are not missed and we’re a big part of the problem. These posts date back to 2016 always “rumors” Staples is going under. Not quite yet, just got rid of the much needed cancer that was still lurking around. Enjoy going to another company and failing there as well.

It doesn’t have so much to do with age as it does salary. It just so happens that if you have age AND tenure, then you have a higher compa-ratio. Then you have a clear bullseye on your head. Let’s face it, layoffs are done to reduce expenses. Your higher salary earners are usually the one that have been around for years and are therefore older. The irony is that they were likey a part of the the growth and early success of Staples. Now they are whacked and all of their knowledge and experience walks out the door. There has not been any forward momentum in this company in 10+ years. This will continue. Shame.

Ot's simple. Unionize. Much of their practices would go into the gutter.

Have to say I was hired over 50 and worked my butt off and escaped many layoffs. It’s not those who do their work but those who don’t OVER do their work, meaning those who don’t do more than required who generally get laid off. That’s what is expected here which is completely wrong. I did that for a few years and left happily. Management is oblivious to the work required, or driven by bonuses, or desperate to keep a job they know; 30 something upper management is only interested in their bonuses and having an impressive title on their resume. When DEI started it solidified my decision to leave. I have no regrets for my time there but happily gone.

It has nothing to do with age. It all started with shoving that DEI bs down our throats. JL bragging about his daughters s-xuality on a national call is one reason. 1, it’s no one’s business, 2, it’s uncalled for, and 3, WTF does that have to do with selling office supplies? Sharing private family matters with 10000 strangers doesn’t sound like CEO material to me. Don’t blame the age stuff, blame the head guy in charge.

Yes but…I’d say it’s really just based on the higher salaried employees who typically end up being older as that’s how they’ve gotten up in salary (bigger merit increases back 10-15 yrs ago). It’s not fair and d-mb as a strategy when you lose all that knowledge.

100% ageism applies in their decision making process on who to let go, that and the income they are making for the longer tenured folks. I was also targeted. Same gross practices that we have seen year after year. Experience and results do not matter. Bottom line profits so the top gets paid. Period. And when they let tenure go they can keep recycling the same strategy year over year and the newbies think it’s new and consultants get paid for the same idea year over year over year. Painful to watch. Glad I am no longer part of this broken down pathetic machine.
