They also have a goal of making the company younger - average age. Most of us that are older are also expensive.

+ In US, they aren't obligated ! The only reason even early retirement is offered is because they don't want damages from bad publicity ( SAP has US government as one of the biggest customer ) or a potential age-discrimination penalty suit !

Rest, everyone lives on a 2 week notice contract anyways .

@fam+1qKKGyEs Only in Germany. Per FAQ:
"This includes --but is not limited to -- early retirement in North America and an exclusive focus on early retirement and a voluntary program in Germany".

They don't want to offer voluntary in the rest of the world because it's likely to lead to a lot of roles they don't want to cut taking it. In Germany they're offering voluntary because it's impossible to lay anybody off involuntarily.
