SAP plans job changes or buyouts for 8,000 employees in restructuring plan

  • SAP announced a restructuring plan that will affect over 7% of SAP’s workforce of about 108,000, but headcount should be the same by year end, the company said.
  • Management is looking to accelerate growth, partly through artificial intelligence, as it continues a push to become cloud-centric.

Management is hedging their bets. There is recession in Germany, deindustrialisation is happening, western engine is slowing down, becoming more like an activist generation. Hardly 10-15 EU companies have a market cap of more than 100 Billion, in Software there are not even 5.

Asia is the new growth engine, less work life balance, could work for 12 hours for 6 days, employee salaries and cost of operations are low, profitability would be comparatively high. What more would companies need. They are running a capitalist business and not a NGO. Sad but true.

As mentioned in one of the other posts on Renjen, the new hires would be mostly in India and other developing countries. Thus the headcount would still remain the same by the end of the year!
