How to apply unemployment and Medicare

This is my first layoff. I would like to learn how to apply unemployment and medical benefits. Is it wise to use corba or any alternative
Any one experienced earlier please comment.

Check your state's unemployment regulations before you request the date when you get the payout of your severance (if you have a choice). In some states, the unemploment regulations consider your severance as continuation of your employment income and pro-rate your severance payment by weeks, thus making you ineligible to collect unemployment until you "ran out" of severance money. The day you receive your severance is the key here and would determine your elibility for when you can start to collect your unemployment benefits.

Medicare is 65 and over. You just need to sign up for private insurance or cobra. But you have health insurance until the WARN period is over.

Yes you can pick up another job during the non-working notice or you can try and find another job within Citi and forfeit your severance. If you decide to get a job at another bank there might be a non-compete stipulation in your severance agreement just find out what that is. If you get another job just keep it to yourself. Citi doesn’t need to know.

This would be my first as well - can I apply and get a new job in the 60 day non-working period? Would it be considered me quitting or still part of the layoff?

Can I apply and land a job at another bank in that 60 day period?

If you have a non working notice period you can apply for unemployment the day after your notice ends. So if you have a 60 day non working notice in your state you can apply for unemployment on day 61. Forget about cobra the price is ridiculous. It’s best to go to healthcare.org and apply there. If you’re eligible for medicare that means you are 62 or older so you will have to apply for medicare and forget about healthcare.org. Also on your severance package they will give you a vague timeframe for when they will pay your severance. Say you want a specific date for when you will be paid your severance. So something like you want your severance within 30 days of your last non-working notice date is acceptable. Im noticing Citi is playing around with severance take it from me they are playing with my severance and Im now having to look at how I am going to force them to pay up.

COBRA is expensive. Check healthcare.gov. For unemployment google info for your specific state. Each state has its own process.

I'm sorry you lost your job. What area were you in?
You would have to research the unemployment rules for your state.

In addition to Cobra, there is also healthcare.gov

Good luck.
