Thread regarding Citigroup Inc. / Citibank / Citi layoffs

Layoff

If I get laid off hence on WARN period, and during warn period, I magically get an offer, do I say I got laid off or I’m leaving for better opportunity. Because technically during warn period, we are actually an “active” employee, correct?

Honestly it doesn’t matter.
This is a huge reorg. Lay offs are not performance based.

Technically if you are on WARN you are employed by Citi. If you take a job during WARN you therefore quit Citi and no longer qualify for Severence. Will they know, who knows, but they def can stop paying out WARN and withhold Severence if they find out and choose to do so.

There are Privacy Laws in the USA. The only network or info shared among banks is if someone was fired due to fraud, stealing client or company assets etc. cause these are criminal activities. Otherwise, employers do Not know who you're working for Unless you open your mouth and tell them. Citi employees are getting fired due to a layoff, Not fraud or stealing etc..

Believe me Banks have a network. That is why if anyone is let go due to fraud related activities, the names are shared across banks. Also during employment verification they will get to know.

You Still get severance even if you start a new job cause Citi laid you off. But you will No longer qualify for unemployment insurance benefits.

How can Citi know or find out if the OP starts a new external job ? In other words, do NOT tell Citi anything and continue to collect WARN money and severance. If it's not broken don't fix it. And why sh00t yourself in the foot?? It's Not like Citi is doing surveillance of its thousands of laidoff employees which would be expensive for an already destitute bank, and Citi laidoff thousands since Jan. 2023.

Try to negotiate with the new firm not to start sooner than the end of Warn. It’s basically free salary for you for not even working. You can go travel for a couple of months. You may not have this opportunity again!

If you Join another bank, Citi will know. So they won’t give you severance. You can say leaving for better opportunity to the new client.

Transformation has failed. Nothing has been improved since layoff announcement 4 months ago. The only change is that productivity has gone down 80% and confusion has gone up 80%. It looks like the only plan the execs have is to fire people. Citi has no good plan for growth.
