Thread regarding Premera Blue Cross layoffs

Recent Layoffs - More to Come?

Truly a "not for profit"? Check the exec pay and decide for yourself. Does processing of claims require over 1,000 Information Technology employees? The budget hemorrhages as the 1k+ IT employees (Premera has appx 3300 full time employees) account for average budget overages equating to >$50M from IT alone. In addition, there is limited trusting these dedicated employees as they bring in consultants and outside resources instead of relying on the 1k+ full time IT employees.
A "not for profit" payer where 1/3 of staff are IT plus additional consultants?

Make healthcare work better by doing what an insurance company should do, process and pay claims faster than others.

No matter what Premera tries, it is still just an insurance company and might return to profitability if they focus on the basics.

More layoffs are coming for TOPS. The ELT and SLT are stuck in BlueSea and coming up with arbitrary numbers to reduce budget while still highering upper echelon positions. Senior Management is extreemly top heavy and is constantly ensuring that they are not held accountable for thie actions - passing blame down to lower level employees which are then let go for those mistakes.

More layoffs are coming for the claims department. Cognizant India outsourcing is taking over claims, customer service, provider stuff etc etc. Kinda funny they like to say they care for the member yet will be getting less quality processing. The claims team now already just rework anything overseas touches since they’d be blamed for errors.

Hmmm, why is leadership leaving??? Just sell or leave Jeff Roe and tak take the msft rejects and consultants with you. You, sir, are SO out of your league and reality as are the majority of the blues.

Don't listen to your "yes people" or the "consultants" you are spending multiple millions of members money on.

It's beyond you, you hired the wrong LT, you thought it should be a tech company, etc.

Retire NOW as you are not doing anyone any favors by staying. Relying on consultants and trusting non Premera employees actually makes you weak.

You (Premera) are an affiliate that reviews, processes, and pays/denies claims.

Everything else is fluff and a waste of everyone's money.

Premera periodically layoff (every few years) the staff they spent thousands on training, If you are part of the “in” crowd you’re good! There is little thought for the front line employee let alone the members.

Wow... I work in billing on provider side and reached this page after googling "premera layoffs." I knew there had to be something going on with the recent changes to the provider phone tree, which now endlessly loops you back to the main menu if you try to talk to a rep. I finally managed to speak to someone by calling the member line and having them transfer me directly to a provider line rep, and the guy I spoke with mentioned that the claim I was having reprocessed would probably be delayed due to "backup" in the claims department. I bet!

Yes, more again in May. So monthly layoffs in 2024, hmmm. This "company" has let so much knowledge walk out the door and now pays Accenture, Deloitte, Gartner... tell them what to do. Exec Leadership, collect your golden parachute and move on! You have no idea what you can do to compete and switch strategies as fast as a baby's diaper. You hire "the best" and then if a consultant tells you otherwise, you layoff the employee and allow the consultant to continue milking the Honeypot that Premera has become for these consultants.

Board, replace all ELT over 3 years, review the rest for favoritism, and do what is necessary, renew the ELT and Board, and if not, sell to the highest bidder.

The ship as it is is sinking fast and the upcoming regulations and consolidations will pull it all the way down 😢

40 more today, looks like once a month or whatever they have to do to avoid the publicity of a WARN notice.

Really a passive aggressive approach from executive leadership and the board.

Based off this, I would never do business with them or Boston Consulting Group.

Feeling like Premera is leveraging for a takeover/merger? Amazera, Micromera, Provimera, Pregence BCBS....

Obviously employee and customer focus is gone 😞

Is it truly a "not-for-profit"? Assess executive pay and consider the necessity of over 1,000 IT employees for claims processing. The budget faces challenges, with the 1,000+ IT staff causing significant overages, exceeding $50M. Trust in the dedicated employees wavers as external resources are favored over the 1,000+ full-time IT team. A "not-for-profit" payer with a substantial IT workforce and consultants?

Improve healthcare efficiency by prioritizing timely claims processing and payments, returning to the core responsibilities of an insurance company for potential profitability.
