Thread regarding Macy's Inc. layoffs

To Those Who Are Impacted:

I worked for Macys for 12 years, climbed the ladder and survived five layoffs impacting my work groups, only to be laid off in late 2020. I was devastated, I had worked for this company almost my entire adult life.

I am now 3 1/2 years past being laid off, and I have to say, it was the best thing that has ever happened to me as well as those I was impacted with. We quickly realized that Macys did not know our worth. Those of us who were impacted found jobs paying almost double, with better benefits, and corporate leaders who truly cared. I would have never left the company. I grew up with on my own accord and I’m thankful every day that Macys made a stupid decision to lay me off.

The feeling of being laid off is so impactful and so devastating, but please understand that there are better things on the horizon.

All said everyone. Take the good from Macys and go somewhere else and get paid more and be happy. Life is way too short to waste your time at a company that doesn't appreciate you.

Well they laid off our SMM and kept the OOM who knows nothing about merchandising. Some of the merchandising team is switching departments just to avoid the OOM who is trying to give us more merchandising duties, they prefer to be sales associates. who would’ve thunk? All managers and captains who never merchandised are looking panic stricken..the store is looking worst than ever. So the fun begins….

To the commenter above on FAKERS…..so well put. My management job was also eliminated after the pandemic after many years of commitment. I never quite mastered self promotion either or “platforming” as they called it! Then after all of it……I was asked if I wanted to come back to basically the same job at less than half the money. lol!

Well, it finally happened to us! Called the Manager 24 hours before letting us know the store was being closed. The "audit" team is walking around asking everyone how they are doing. WHAT DO YOU THINK, have to pay mortgage bills, etc. and 6 week notice. If you quit before that time, no severance. We've been lied to for the last 2 years, so do what EVERYONE says, start looking now. The company is headed in a downhill spiral. We were an anchor store, like Sears, and now both are gone. Mall will certainly close within a year.
Thieves, will have no where to "shop."

Worked at Macys 22 years got laid off over the phone during Covid I made $11.00 an hr. I
Worked in almost every dept I worked for all the managers and that’s what I got. We have 2 macys within about 3 miles of each other and now they are opening a discount macys within another 3 miles. They are definitely up to something, glad I’m not there anymore, anyone who claimed to be my friend never heard from them again. Good luck to those who stayed, I ended up working in hospital emergency dept where I am appreciated by all .

Thank you for sharing. 27+ years and still surviving, but very concerned with the future. I'm also so afraid to go somewhere else, I'm not young anymore, but not near retirement.

I 💯 agree with this. I left after 13 years with the company. It was scary and at the same time the best decision I've ever made. I doubled my salary and work with the most amazing upper and lower management. They treat everyone with respect. They're appalled at how macys treated us. I work with people who previously worked for macy's and we joke about unlearning abuse.

Good luck to all of you! Take the positives that macys has taught you and find your perfect job. Even if it's not perfect it's better then macys.

I was lucky enough for the ultimate recognition & respect from Macy’s by having my management job eliminated in 2017 after 26+ years. I felt like I won the lottery that day! Granted, there were good times (really good times) at Macy’s back in the day before all the FAKERS took over and made “self-promotion” & A**kissing Priority #1&2. I was embarrassed for myself going to work in those final last years. I never did get into the “self-promotion” mode but did master being the BEST FAKER to the fakers all around me. Can’t imagine being there today.
