I worked for Macys for 12 years, climbed the ladder and survived five layoffs impacting my work groups, only to be laid off in late 2020. I was devastated, I had worked for this company almost my entire adult life.
I am now 3 1/2 years past being laid off, and I have to say, it was the best thing that has ever happened to me as well as those I was impacted with. We quickly realized that Macys did not know our worth. Those of us who were impacted found jobs paying almost double, with better benefits, and corporate leaders who truly cared. I would have never left the company. I grew up with on my own accord and I’m thankful every day that Macys made a stupid decision to lay me off.
The feeling of being laid off is so impactful and so devastating, but please understand that there are better things on the horizon.
