Thread regarding Alphabet Inc. (Google) layoffs

Layoffs in Google Cloud

Hearing that it's happening next week and TPMs are targeted. Nearly 80% would be let go. They want to avoid laying off the Engineers.

It is called population control . Future generations will make less money due to AI. They will have smaller families, purchase less material items and own less homes. This is very would good news for the controlling elite that want to rule over the world.

India has some of the worst business regulations that make opening a business very difficult there. Just look it up.

"Booming economy" is likely fake. How often do you see something made in India in the U.S.? Can you name one brand from India? Or one tech company? Whatever economic bo-m that is happening there is because of remittances.

Part of the problem that no one wants to talk about is the role of Government and its policies. Governments pass a gazillion laws, many of which take a lot of resources to implement, making the cost of running a business very difficult, no matter what the business is. Indian economy is booming despite real estate footprint being much smaller. So are many other economies around the world.

Look at healthcare. Wait until you need special medical attention, and see how long the wait times are and how much the bureaucracy gets involved before one gets the help they need. A specialist appointment (ortho, dermatologist, neurologist, cardio, etc) - you need to jump hoops before you see a doctor. Goto an Asian country, you can see a specialist the same day.

The majority of TPMs don't have the "T" of technical as many of software managers at Google. They are mere project managers who follow checklists. Do you want to know why Google has only project/program managers instead of the titled TPM ? Because the interview is not technical when compared to other companies. There is no system design involved, and any regular project manager passes on the interview. So, as a TPM, yes, I have the "T," I am a solutions architect certified, and I know system design very well, and I code for fun, I can tell that the majority of TPMs are useless, as many of the majority of software managers that do not code, have weak technical approach including a very poor cross-communication. Google is full of them. I think Google should fires 99% of the TPMs and they will not feel any difference.

If a TPM is working on a large critical cross functional program, then he/she is safe. Everyone else is fair game per my boss. The expectation is for Engineering to pick up the TPM work. The lists are already made & the cuts will happen next week where TPMs would be disproportionately impacted. All the best to everyone.

This is self-cannibalism..we invented AI and it is taking over..Management thinks TPM roles are less important..it is going to spread to other roles , soon will happen in other companies too

I can confirm that TK was in London this week and so far few to no layoffs this week.

I can also confirm that the general sentiment is Tuesday.

I have no information on which groups are targeted.

Even Meta laid off a lot of their TPMs. This is the current trend.

Even I have heard about this 80% number.

Me asking Google Bard: Are there layoffs at google now in Jan 2024?

Yes, there have been layoffs at Google in January 2024. In fact, Google has been going through a period of cost-cutting measures that began in late 2023 and has continued into the new year.

Here's a summary of the layoffs that have occurred so far in 2024:

Early January: Google laid off "hundreds" of employees across various divisions, including its engineering, hardware, and Google Assistant teams.
Mid-January: Google laid off "a few hundred" more employees in its advertising sales group.
Google CEO Sundar Pichai has warned employees that more layoffs are to be expected in 2024, although he expects them to be less severe than those that occurred in 2023. He has cited the need to "align resources" with the company's "biggest priorities" as the reason for the layoffs.

The tech industry as a whole has been experiencing a wave of layoffs in recent months, as companies grapple with slowing economic growth and rising costs. Google is not the only major tech company that has laid off employees in 2024; other companies that have announced layoffs include Amazon, Microsoft, and Meta.

It is important to note that the exact number of Google employees who have been laid off in 2024 is not publicly known. However, the reports that have been published suggest that the number is in the hundreds, if not more.

The layoffs at Google are a reminder of the challenges that the tech industry is facing in the current economic climate. It is also a reminder that even large, successful companies are not immune to the need to make tough decisions about their workforce.

"This is false."

Prove it then. IBM did the same thing when the Indian CEO took over (IBM now has most of its employees in India). Microsoft (with another Indian CEO) has done the same: last year 50% of MS employees were let go in the Bellevue and Redmond areas.

Blue-collar jobs went to Mexico and China. White-collar jobs are now going to India. Then the entire American society will collapse since very few can afford housing and living expenses (or even marriage and kids).

There is a reason for the 34 trillion in national debt with around two trillion being added annually--the tax base has been decimated since good paying jobs have left the country.
