Hi, what's really bad is the unbelievable number of H1B's that are in every company. I've been laid off three (3) times since 2010. Each time, it has been increasingly more difficult to find another job.
It has happened yet again. I work for CITI bank as a SWE. I have solid experience together with a Ms in Computer Science. In late March of 2024, I was let go via a Zoom call. There are 1000's upon 1000's of H1B workers employed by CITI Bank, Google, Microsoft. Facebook and almost all American companies.
7000 other CITI workers like me have also been let go. Ñone of them were H1B visa holders. The principal behind granting a foreign worker an H1B work visa is that they have a specific skill set that an American worker does not possess.
As I spend the next 9 TO 12 months seeking a replacement job, I'll be competing with foreign workers. They dislike American workers, and the majority don't have the level of experience or knowledge to deserve an H1B visa. Why should I and my fellow CITI bank employees who have been laid off have to compete for replacement jobs while so many foreign workers have taken our jobs?
Has anyone else experienced a similar situation? What are your thoughts about this?

There's a Business Journal periodical article about Citi Tampa and surrounding locations. But it looks like BizJournal wants you to subscribe or pay for the article. I have Not registered or tried it. Maybe some of you out there can for the rest of us ? Thank you.
Wondering if AML is the second wave? They usually do first line cuts then second line in other places.
