"Revised model: All required support staff will be scheduled to work for a few weekends/holidays in a shifted schedule"
Nope. Not gonna do it.
Today's shifted schedule is tomorrow's "just work weekends too."
Just not going to do it.

“ Without GSS engineering would not even be aware of how the products behaves when exposed to the multitude of environments, workloads, issues, bottlenecks that the customers have, its not their focus.”
That’s why since VMC on AWS came into the picture and supported directly by Engineering we’ve seen massive improvements related to stability and performance.
The market size will drop severely in the coming years. Customers will look for alternatives, competitors will grab the market, and at the same time, BC will maintain a small number of premium customers. Ultimately, the market size will be smaller than BC anticipates to have. There wouldn't be any need for that many people. People continue to leave. Unable to scale, VMW division (department) will shrink naturally; eventually, VMW will be just another dinosaur tech division. BC acquires a new company and repeats.
Job market is awful right now! You will get your severance and what’s next ?
Go and try finding a new job, you’ll be surprised how hard it is, almost impossible.
Who needs 10-15k unemployed VCPs? Just think about it before leaving, a lot of people out there would gladly take your job and will work weekends, nights, holidays whatever Hock will dictate. I know it’s not pleasant to hear, but think about it first!
A good example is working weekends. Weekends used to pay extra via a shift differential. Now, weekends are simply mandatory with no extra pay. Who would appreciate that?
If there is a significant increase in salary to cover this, without a clock in clock out weekend overtime then forget it!!!!
Doing a good job isn't a requirement now. So, just do the job.
Why would they appreciate a job with steadily decreasing benefits?
Because it's a job. There is a huge number of unemployed people in our field begging for jobs. Decreasing benefits are better than none.
I am sure someone else will appreciate your job a lot more than you.
Why would they appreciate a job with steadily decreasing benefits? Every other week Broadcom gives us less, takes something away, makes us do more.

Don’t do it. Just quit today and do whatever pleases you.
I am sure someone else will appreciate your job a lot more than you.
The point about support which few non-GSS seems to be aware of, is the fact that a tremendous amount of product improvement originates from GSS. The range of failure modes of the product, huge amount of bugs created to engineering, and daily interactions with the customer's in their most squashed down state (due to software failures) is so integral. The failure modes elimination defines success in the in-premise IT. Without GSS engineering would not even be aware of how the products behaves when exposed to the multitude of environments, workloads, issues, bottlenecks that the customers have, its not their focus. I hope BC is aware of that, and its not at all like their main business where they design an hardware and sell it to an OEM after which the OEM has to deal with the issues. Its NOT like that in software
'Should of taken the severance.
It is ok though, with production support going to partners there will be layoffs coming to GS. Hope they happen within 18 months of the purchase so you still get the VMware severance package.'
You're probably right on this. However, there is a decent chance that whoever it gets farmed out to will likely hire on the folks currently at GS.
While RSUs may initially seem appealing, as an engineer, the reality is receiving only 1500-2500 EUR every quarter. The compensation from BC falls short in addressing the overwhelming workload. Consequently, engineers are likely to depart in the coming weeks, leaving others to shoulder additional product training. While RSUs may be enticing, the toll on one's well-being, potentially leading to burnout or health issues, should not be overlooked.
Wait until people see rsu's offered and then see how big a deal working a Sat or Sun would be. Alot of people out there would gladly take that job so leave if you are too precious to think support orgs anywhere are Mon to Fri only any more. Good luck finding anything that will pay anywhere near it when it comes to rsu's.

I you don't see that writing on the wall you are blind.
