Thread regarding Wayfair Inc. layoffs

Jan 19 Layoffs

Senior Management let it slip that they received an email stating that they should be expecting layoffs on Jan 19th. Please take care everyone. This company clearly doesn't.

The culture at W has completely changed in the years since I joined. It's absolutely miserable. The stress is unreal and the heavy workloads are impossible! I stopped putting in any extra time since the king's email. The work I don't get to will sit there! Tools constantly break, trying to get Engineering support is a joke. Not a dig at those folks, it's just a reality. Agents transferred to teams during the last 2 rifs that are unqualified for the role. Did they even qualify these agents before assigning them to new teams? Just makes more work for the rest of us. Senior Leadership is so out of touch with actual workflows! But it's folks that are not leadership that deal with the consequences of their bad decisions. Everyone is angry, stressed, resentful and mad as h*ll. I cant blame them because i am one of them. I'm exhausted by all of the stress! If I am part of tomorrow's rif, maybe it's His way of showing me I need to take another path. Good luck to everyone! I'm sure there will be a river of tears tomorrow.

Dude everyone should be worried. I've lived through like 4 RIFs and even more 'ReOrgs'. Anyone can be laid off at any time no matter the tenure, or how supposedly valuable they are.

Nothing posted to the WARN yet. Check it at midnight ET. I bet this will collectively be the worst nights sleep of our lives as of recently.

I am an L5 in corp supply chain - We've had no official word and its all speculation like mentioned here. Told to prepare for the worst. I suspect my role is likely to get eliminated and every L5 / L6 Ive spoken to this week all fear the worst but no one has received any heads up or pre-communications that Ive spoken too. Obviously doesn't mean no one has gotten a heads up - Just no one in my orbit. May the odds be ever in your favor! It seems as tho no one is generally safe and we still have no idea as to what is happening. Guessing I will hear something tonight if anyone on my team is affected and if I dont - One can assume that I will be affected OR none of us are affected. What a sh---y game.

Wayfair does too many RIFs. It almost feels like a game now. Being on this sub makes it even more so.

"Managers only pursue initiatives which make them shine rather than completing projects which would impact the company positively"

Could not agree more. After last years RIF we were led to believe we'd be helping turn things around, and part of me, believes thats what Niraj and top brass thought too.

Little did they know, layer upon layer of yes men/women and complete resistance to meaningful policy or tech changes, by people grifting a living, at L3 to L6 level meant nothing was saved...and now here we are.

I miss my colleagues that were let go last year. Scary to think I might be in the same position tomorrow.

Berlin employee here.. the mood was very strange in the office today. What I felt is hopefulness. I believe everyone knew this was coming back beginning of last year. I would assume supply chain are ready for this as teams like POS or GSCI team have been BPOing like crazy the whole 2023 and the whole point of having offshore is substitute you for a cheaper option.

Personally I wish the company would get rid of bad leadership entirely. Managers only pursue initiatives which make them shine rather than completing projects which would impact the company positively.

Also question from the heart for my fellow colleagues in Berlin voting they trust leadership on the NPS: What dr-gs do you take and where do you get them?

Has anyone heard how much EU customer service (specialized) will be affected? There's rumors about EU being completely or partially shut down?

L5 or L6 who know either way, will you not put us out our misery and add a clear post? 4000 views in this thing.. Sombody here knows. It's bad enough how the company have handled this (tumbleweed). Please just post here anonimously and do us all a solid. 🙏

There’s this guy on X called
Better called robin. He gave some insider news a week before the lay offs last year. He hasn’t posted anything this time. Maybe we’re panicking over nothing.

Unless the person that got laid off or heard about the leaked news speak up. L5 should have known about this by now., there’s no mention here.

Corp roles, customer service and specialized teams will all be hit. Email was accidentally leaked. They are too over staffed.

I will first say - Despite all the unmitigated chaos and lack of a clear top down strategy (there are 4 billion definitions of nailing the basics) - I have enjoyed my time here and hope that I get to continue to support this operation into becoming a mature and process based company. That said - To see Niraj's email come out mid-december where he sh-t on us BUT emphatically said we were "winning again" - That was an even crueler message looking back at it now than originally received... They knew we had issues then. If Wayfair was a employee centric organization, they would have looked to cut travel, to cut snacks, to cut the operating fat BEFORE they disrupt the lives of all the people in a steady trickle that have made this organization what it is today. They lied to our faces and they gaslit us through every communication. I wish the best for Wayfair and I am pulling for my directs, my teams, our ops, and my organization... But I am so exhausted and fatigued by the amount of nonsense and lack of direction we have lived under only to find ourselves here fearing for our well being once again. But - We are winning again so I hope that brings us all comfort. This doesnt feel like winning - full stop.

just a former management employee who still has a lot of contacts within the company. rumors stating the layoffs affect the entire company. warehouses are vastly over budgets and headcount needs to get lean. i dont know any of the specifics outside of rumors and what I was told. I just think Wayfair's way of handling the layoffs are cold and impersonal. a lot of good individuals put in a lot of good work and long hours to get the company where it is at and an email saying youve been laid off when you first come in is just wrong. shows the company does not value everyone.

i will say this though ... everyone ive talked to has seen their mental health and career enjoyment increase dramatically. maybe it is for the best.
