Thread regarding Optum layoffs

Good news to kick off 2024

Our Vice President has just conveyed uplifting news—two-thirds of our team members will be receiving a positive salary market adjustment ranging from 4% to 6%. This initiative not only recognizes their hard work but also aims to curb potential turnovers, fostering a supportive and rewarding work environment.

Managers are not allocated knowledgeable and experienced US based employees. Instead we get OGA offshore. The reason? The average salary for OGA is 35-40k a year!!! Compare that to the salary and benefits of a US based employee. For comparison, my team of US grade 27’s salary are in the 70-80k range. For the cost of 1 US based employee, the org can fund 2 offshore.

This is Optum. I think you might have meant a -4% to -6% salary adjustment.

This is clickbait attention.
3-6% is a slap in the face when some people can do the work of 2-4 people in 1 role. GET REAL

yeah right, almost no one in optum is going to get 4% merit unless you're low on market range or lacking behind your peers. Otherwise I'd expect maybe a 1-2% merit for those <27 grade

I think you must have posted this in the wrong group. This is for Optum, part of UHG. This is not happening anywhere in Optum, since the plan is for people to quit and replace them with contractors, or cheap labor off shore.

These numbers haven't been solidified yet so this is interesting.

Curious how the VP conveyed that message. Did he/she convey it to the entire team, and if so, that would leave the other third pretty upset I imagine. How were were the 2/3 chosen? Do they all live in the same geographic area? I'm thinking not, unless of course you work at an on-site location. Which then leads me to believe, this 2/3 was selected by, let's just say "other methods."
