Thread regarding NetApp layoffs

Layoffs confirmed yesterday (1/17)

Many people were laid off yesterday, including myself and many people I know at NetApp. (Retained) managers I spoke to said they were told at the last minute who was going and were not involved in the decisions and did not know it was coming. Some have noticed that the people being let go were in the higher salary ranks for their grade which, if true, is consistent with cost-cutting measures, perhaps to boost stock price.

News flash: Layoffs are happening everywhere. I bet if you go somewhere else you’ll find your new company has a similar Layoff board to this one. It’s unfortunately the world we live in. If you feel like you’re not safe then yeah you should proactively look for something else. But if you think you’re gonna find a similar role that is totally free from layoff pressure that’s quite a rock you’ve been living under.

They won't lay the remote employees off. Too costly. NetApp will follow the footsteps of other popular tech companies and force RTO. If you don't show up, they'll use it as grounds for firing you, except you won't get any severance or the typical benefits a layoff would grant you.

Best to use your current position as a stepping stone to a company that's actually innovating and not sinking all of their capital into failing science projects.

I saw a "bye" email from a Sr Dir that had been there for ~23 years, so that tracks with higher salaries being looked at.

We're a company in decline. We're now surviving on random layoffs with our hopes pinned on the possibilities of AI.

EIS and Cloud Security is being moved to Bangalore as it is much cheaper. Look for the entire US Staff to be let go.

Every area was impacted. They kept the number under the WARN ACT requirement. They will do the next round in Feb.

Cuts in RTP, Boulder and SV make sense, it's super expensive to have offices and personnel in these areas. Santana Row offices are expensive to lease.

Yet, in my neck of the woods, I spend a lot of time interviewing for new hires. Obviously a wide grouping of circumstances at NetApp.
