Then why do I feel disappointed?

As far as those laid off in the last round, I know of plenty of people who were extremely happy to have that opportunity to be paid a severance to leave a job they had come to hate. We all have bills to pay and not everyone has the luxury to just leave if they hate a job. Being paid a severance can be a blessing.
Logic says don't quit a job without having a new one lined up. No one said to yeet yourself into the unemployment void but let's be honest. If you are mad you are NOT laid off, you may be the problem here. Imagine how these sentiments sound to someone who is getting laid off or who got laid off in the last round.
It’s not realistic to tell someone to just leave! You quit and you don’t get unemployment, or severance pay. If you are layed off even if you don’t get a severance package, you at least have unemployment to help.
People complaining that they still have a job lol. That's crazy
Do yourself a favor and leave! If you have nothing holding you back (contractual obligations, ect) then leave! Update your resume and start applying!
I totally understand your sentiment! I am so done and ready to leave this place but need the money. If it wasn’t considered a volunteer quit and lose my unemployment benefit I’d be the first in line to volunteer and take the place of someone that wanted to stay.
So disappointed... I wish they would be more humane and allow for volunteers.
