Thread regarding Union Pacific Corp. layoffs

Serious injuries Require Serious Safety Discipline

Critical 5: Blue Signal Protection, Securing Jacked Equipment, Lockout/Ragout, Fall Protection, I
Impaired Clearances.

Lean all of the rules and apply them. Management is looking to reduce numbers by removing people from service.

First critical rule violation 30 days off and 12 months probation.
Second violation dismissed from service.

They can’t do mass furloughs so this is just a way to get people fired or quit. On top of their production quota which falls under compliance. Vena’s media front of making the safest railroad bs. These people don’t care about safety, it’s all about profits. They think you’re stupid. I hate this company.

Oh believe me. When I get a call to adjust brake piston travel or change reading light bulb. I will take my sweeeeet time and that Z train will be late. Got to do it right and safe. Lockout-tagout & blue flag every f* switch in the yard to do 1 min bulb change. I get pay by hour. 🎪

I’m sure the unions and their attorneys are working hard at the moment to take this unfair policy to court to get it eliminated.

Personally, I feel that all of these threats of termination is to get rid of the majority of employees so they can bring in all of these millions of illegals and basically have cheap slave labor for a few dollars a day, no insurance, no retirement. They will be able to work this slave labor force to the bone, get rid of them and bring in more as its an unending labor pool.
You will then have safety and rail issues with the slave labor not understanding anything of safety or equipment, or repair. There will be derails, communities poisoned, and people ki-led because of this.
Let the games begin.

I see this as a desperate act, scrapping the bottom of the barrel of ideas. With so many lawsuits for wrongful termination yet to be heard this will only add to those lawsuits. But by the time these lawsuits are paid out jimmy the vennie will be gone. The long term damage that is being done for minuscule gains for the next few quarters should be illegal. The longer these chicken$h!t little games are played to delay the turn around this company needs is going to make the crash ahead before the turnaround so much worse.

Most managers can't even tell an employee what rule they broke without looking up the rule to see what it actually says. The critical five rule BS is going to blow up in their damn faces. I heard a manager tell a group of mech. people "this rule push is not to get more people fired"! Really? Then what's it for? It's sounds like you want more people fired, and just using the cover story of eliminating unsafe behaviors as a way to eliminate jobs. Mr. Vena, the men and women of the UP aren't stupid! We have eyes, and 99.99% of us can see right through your BS!

Most of the managers can't do the job of the people who they "manage".

We were told today it was:

1st offense- 12 months probation if you plead guilty and waive a hearing. 30 day suspension and 24 months probation if you have a hearing and are then found guilty.

2nd offense during probation period- Termination

The thing to be careful with is we all know their hearings are a joke, and you are pretty much guilty unless you are somehow able to prove your innocence. So yes, the main reason for this is to eliminate manpower. People on here have referred to the quiet quitting idea, there has never a better time to do that than right now. Hate to say it but it is literally safer for your job for you to do absolutely nothing that to get “caught” breaking these rules. And I use the term “caught” meaning that there are managers that will lie or make up something to try to get someone fired. Watch yours and your fellow coworkers backs.

If the company doesn't want people working for them, then why don't they just say that? The company is going to have the toughest time getting quality employees or even retaining any employee if they keep finding ways to fire people quicker. The BNSF came up with a plan some time ago to fire people quickly and it landed them in a court case that they lost. Hey UP! Say it with me! Wrongful termination!
