Thread regarding Macy's Inc. layoffs

Why is it so hard to leave retail?

I've been trying to get a new job in another industry I'm fully qualified for, but having retail on my resume seems to be the kiss of death. I'm starting to think it'd be better to write the last five years as having been unemployed than having worked at Macy's for that period. It's unnerving, to say the least.

What is the new position you want? Can you relate taking ownership of a project in the store? Training anyone?
Persuasive/ - example is telling people the benefits of the Macy's card in order to get them to sign up?
Customer service - problem solving examples.

Funny… thought out my d-mb, d-mb “career” of…. I won’t say… when it was truly valued and respected … I didn’t have a degree in it… just/ YEARS+++ in it. Now I’m just some d-mb, d-mb who can lift and remove heavy fixtures off the floor… Sigh now , it’s alll about fixture’s removal or fixture bringing back to the floor… 🫤

Most jobs eliminated the requirement of a college degree. Yes, lots of fiction in many LinkedIn profiles and there is no way of verifying that.

All you need to do is get a good linkedin profile that is full of BS much like many of them are. Unverified fiction goes along way nowadays. It worked for many here in management so it can work for you too!

Why would 5 years sitting on your keister be better than working?

You can say the same for waiters and bartenders. They want to leave but they can’t b/c they’re addicted and attached.
