Zebra devices

Been told to give Zebra device to manager and not use them anymore. Anybody know why? They said only local and yard crew will use them now.

The Zebra was really designed for the yard, where it slashed two man crews to one. The glorified cell phone lines power switches. Not efficiently, but has capability. It allows one guy to spend entire shift outside and slows the processing of freight, leading to missed departure times. Plus safety rules ignored to allow one guy to do clerical work on a zebra while running a remote locomotive. Disaster waiting to happen...

They were told that they needed a smaller sample size for R&D. Moving usage to a much smaller user group reduces the support costs.

What the overall utilization of DigiCrew is intended to be will be executed several years down the road. There is time needed for more indepth background development, 2-4 years. (Guess who will be long gone by then?)
