Thread regarding Dell Inc. layoffs

There is better out there...

Hi everyone, I was affected by the WFR in August. I recently started a new job at a mid-sized software company, and frankly the changes are quite astonishing.

  • ~25% salary increase
  • 50% more vacation time
  • benefits are pretty much the same other than the fitness reimbursement
  • leadership actually has quantitative and measurable goals for the next year and beyond
  • management doesn't cheap out or count pennies with our customer prospecting/retention. We can take them out for nice meals, sports games and other events, etc. They also have sales retreats every year where they fly the entire sales team to nice resorts on the ocean for account planning and to discuss changes that are happening in the year ahead.
  • AI isn't just a buzzword, they actually use it internally and they also just implemented its use in the software (management also actually understands its uses and implications, not just "Are you asking your customers about AI?")
  • completely remote workforce. I think they have some office space in WeWork's in 4 or 5 cities in North America, but no requirement to ever use them

Anyways, I was absolutely torn when I was laid off in August. I was crushing my targets and was in line for a promotion, and it just completely blindsided me.
For those who were laid off after me and those who will be laid off in the new year: it is not the end of the world and there are plenty of opportunities out there that are much better than at Dell. For all you know, you may just need that kick to get out of your routine and comfort zone and boost yourself into something much better than before.

Happy holidays all, and I wish you the best in your careers moving forward!

I too, along with many high performing team members, was laid off in August. I found a new job pretty quickly, with better pay and it is truly, fully remote (with zero game playing on that piece), but the benefits aren’t quite as strong. There’s stuff that I don’t love about my new employer. But I 1,000% do NOT miss the sh-t show that was Dell. The ridiculous cheerleading, favoritism, micro managing, outright childish behaviors …. It was awful and I couldn’t be happier to be gone. It’s a tight market out there but I think that will soon change. If you get a pink slip, try to see the bright side of things - that you are finally FREE

I recently moved industries after seeing what Dell, especially in Belgium is becoming. Leave because the ship is sinking. The online first strategy should have been implemented 10 years ago. No partners are ready for fully online. Accounts move all the time. You cannot grow within. There's 0 perspective. They have fired almost all of their TSR's. Marketing cannot provide any good leads. It's pure disgrace and you should just move on, that's the only thing I can say.

Happy holidays everyone.

Yes.

Keep in mind dells latest bo-m years was during a world wide epidemic. A couple years where people were forced to retreat home cause of contagion fears.

Did they take those record profits and reinvest in company, land, buildings, and employees??? They literally did the complete opposite.

That's all, folks. Now it will continue it's adrift into the void.

Congrats. Thank you for posting this.

I have been trying to tell people here Dell is a discount company in every aspect.
I have never seen a company go out of its way to shave pennies from their employees to save costs.

It is a tier 4-5 company. Unfortunately many got caught in the decade long quicksand and can't get out or find it hard to land on their feet once they are pushed out.

Many who are not in that decades long quicksand can and will do better.
