Thread regarding VMware layoffs

Who is still at Broadcom?

I wonder how many CA Technologies and Symantec employees still work at Broadcom, five and four years since they were acquired, respectively? I think that would be the best indicator of what's going to happen with us in the next several years. Is there a way to find out this information?

The last 5 years, most engineers get 400-450 a year for the first 4 years and 320 last year. You can say they get 2,120 for 5 years. With the stock of 1k plus? All should get 2-2.2M.
This is how BC RSU gives employees.

Work hard and get great rewards.

I've stayed with Broadcom for 5 years after the CA acquisition and I have $225,000 in stock after taxes with another $300,000 waiting to vest.
I would have never received it at CA.

My new boss and his boss are both legacy CA and seem to like it here. Both are “do your job and don’t make waves” kind of people. At the amount I’m being paid and the piles of RSUs, I’m fine with that.

CA and SED guys are much more grown babies than the new ones for sure.

If you make it past the acquisition, stay until they pay you to leave and enjoy the easy RSU.

yes ,yes, yes , if this weeks AVGO price rise doesn't convince you, fine go on with your FAANG dreams.

So, in summary, Broadcom Software is proven to be a good place to get a paycheck and some RSUs in preparation for your retirement. And the work demands are reasonable.

I stayed after the CA acquisition (mainframe) since bonus was good and RSUs were nice... not engineer money but still better than CA. I loved my team, but I thought I could do better because I felt underappreciated/underpaid for the effort and the market was still pretty good. I actually found a dream remote job at a FAANG that paid a lot more in salary and RSU (keep in mind this was under 2 years ago) and I thought I finally made it in the world.

Great right? Well I suddenly got laid off about 8 months later along with my entire team and now boring yet stable AVGO is more than double the price. I was able to find something full time at a good salary eventually but no RSU so down about 60% in total comp.... it hurts.

I took a risk and now regret it. If you make it past the acquisition, stay until they pay you to leave and enjoy the easy RSU.

Stayed for the product (and team) which I was a part of. At the end of the day, VMWare, CA or Symantec, we are all engineers and are proud of what we built.

Broadcom did not lay off anyone from the CA mainframe business and kept all. It even has hired back many engineers CA laid off in the mainframe space when it was more focused on the distributed products even though the mainframe business was the most profitable.

"I get the sense that after the first year, those that stayed, stayed."

Or in other words,
"I get the sense that after the first year, those that stayed, couldnt find anywhere else to go"

We're mostly a bunch of baby boomers keeping a low profile and getting a paycheck before we exit. Nothing much else to say. Don't create any drama, have low expectations while at Broadcom Software, and you'll be just fine until you're ready to retire.

Probably but you wont find that here - all you'll find here is bitter immature people.
