lets see... lord n taylor was failing for years until saks unloaded the company and real estate on to a investment company for pennies on a dollar.. that company took it private and within one year the company was bankrupt and gone..

Scott Devine was head of visual at lord and Taylor before he came to macys. I saw the writing on the wall when they hired him. Macys looks exactly like lord and Taylor did before they closed.
As a former Macy's visual merchandiser, one thing I noticed about Lord & Taylor during those last few years is that the stores had a boring assortment, were messy, and they only had one "Visual Coordinator" responsible for the whole store.
When Macy's cut visual managers and teams and replaced them with one "Visual Captain", I knew which direction they were headed.
Been through a buyout before. Its very traumatic and scary. I have an emergency fund in case it goes bad because I learned from my last job to depend on yourself. Don't buy cr-p you don't need. Put money away if you can.
I just think times are changing and the economy is bad. There are tenured employees and Macy's customers that cannot adjust or adapt to the modern retail era and technology.... Retail stores survival depends on how well the company can incorporate online shopping with in-store shopping. Also with the economy as bad as it is, the designer brand names like Michael Kors , Coach, etc. are not doing as well as before. Do you wonder why Backstage is doing better than the regular Macy's store? Consumers that were able to splurge on brand designer names cannot anymore.

Dear kool aid drinker... nothing i said was negative just showing a constrast people a former great dept store lord and Taylor ( which btw is older than Macys !) and how it ended up and how i see the same pattern in Macys now..
Light up butter cup... you never did anything with your life other than drink the kool aid at macys ! time to wake up and smell the coffee !

Many of us are aware that there are about to be some difficult times and tough conversations ahead. It pains me to know that many hardworking and dedicated colleagues around the country will be affected. There's no easy way through this, but excuse me if I choose not to be completely hopeless.
