I don’t blame you for not understanding Hock’s strategy. Most of pre-VMware Broadcom employees were all from acquired companies. I can comfortably say all the companies that Hock acquired were poorly managed dare I say dismally so. We all share the same sentiment… what if .. and our company wouldn’t have been acquired. Being under Broadcom umbrella, I’m happy that we were acquired. We still sell the products from LSI, cBroadcom, Brocade, CA mainframe and Symantec. Hock doesn’t milk them dry.. what’s the point of it? He shepherds the BUs to be profitable.

VMware could have your own culture… but your culture seem to be about spending lot of money than you can afford. Under Broadcom, VMware could still have your own culture if it’s not about spending and RTO. Rest of the tech coming back to RTO anyway.

Hock value add in the market is to acquire poorly managed business and make them profitable and efficient. My values are aligned with this strategy and all the employees are well rewarded. We could move to different companies as well but the attrition is very low.

The ONLY reason VMware was bought was because ever since 2004, it was tossed around like a hot potato from one poorly managed company to another. It was bought by EMC and then EMC was bought by Dell, Dell got themselves into 10's of billions of dollars in debt, bought VMW and milked them for all it was worth and sold to BC to relieve some of that debt. Had VMW not been bought and sold over and over who knows? It could have been its own standalone company.

I fully admit I am bitter. VMW was the best company I ever worked for and many of the people there were truly cream of the crop type individuals who had all come from other major tech firms. All of that is now gone and BC will treat it just like it does with everything it buys meaning it will be chopped up, sold off, milked dry until time to buy another company to ruin.

Good for you to find another job that suited your values. If VMware had prioritized on making money, they wouldn’t have been bought by Broadcom. You can blame everyone from Dell to Hock but VMware BOD approved it because Hock has better financial plan for VMware than your management.

Define ‘ruined’
Easy:
By halting any and all innovation in the name of cutting costs
By trapping customers into paying higher prices
By destroying whatever culture that existed at the companies they buy and replacing it with the cold, soul-less culture that is BC
By laying off 1000's of people in the process

I could go on. No matter. I once worked at another company that was similar to BC. Let's just say they use red as a corporate color. Been there, done that, decided long ago it wasn't worth my sanity and mental health which is why as soon as I learned of the plans to buy VMW I started looking and got another job. Those I know who stayed behind and did not get laid off are confirming everything I knew: That BC is not a friendly place to work and is a company with no soul.

Perhaps some of you who work there have never had the chance to work at a company who values the wellbeing of their employees or had a friendly culture. That is what VMW was. And that is why a lot of the top talent already left before the close and why they will probably lose a great deal more who will be seeking other jobs to get out of there. That BC does not see any value in creating an inviting culture is their loss. It does in fact have great value and whatever profits they might make from VMW could have been double had they thought about it.

Whomever they buy will simply mean another company getting ruined. IMHO new regulations need to be created to prevent destructive companies like BC, who stifle innovation, cause massive amounts of layoffs and the destruction of vibrant companies illegal.

That would be nice if Larry allows it. Larry will be the largest individual shareholder of Broadcom.

IBM is the best company to acquire for Hock but it will be quite a news spectacle. Also, IBM management will be resisting.

Would it be hardware or software? It’s been a while since we acquired hardware company. Too many options for software.
