Anxiety subsiding post layoff

Having to wait from the day offers were given out to the eventual close and layoff day were some of the most anxiety inducing weeks of my life. The constant monitoring of email, waiting to finally get an offer or a layoff wore down my mental and physical health. After the close and actual notice of termination though, I feel like I have a new lease on life. I’m sleeping better, have an appetite again, and generally feel like there’s so much I can accomplish after this acquisition. The SWE market isnt great but it’s a lot easier to fend for yourself when you’re not in a constant state of vigilance. If you too were laid off, you’ll land on your feet eventually if you got a job at a big tech company in the first place. This isn’t a black mark, and the fabricated stress for all of us was meaningless. I was terrified of this exact thing happening but my body is extremely relieved.

Many in transition that were in the profitable CA mainframe division were eventually given full time offers. So maybe you should RTO for now and feel part of the team and work but you will never know.

If you knew you can't handle stress well, why didnt you get a new job 6mo ago?

You're not the only one. I'm in transition till April and I'm still stressing every day. If you're in transition, why do you need to RTO? You gonna be gone soon. Do you think I want to fight a two-hour commute to an office where there is no one to collaborate with? Makes no sense. And even if there was, do you think I would care to collaborate knowing I'm on the way out and others have gotten offers? It's just unnecessary stress placed upon us to make our lives miserable b/c HT himself has no life.
