Except for the attendance slide, this resembled an investor call. There couldn’t be a bigger difference between VMW all hands calls and this. I’m very confused. What’s the purpose of this call?
It’s shortly before the Holidays. Couldn’t he at least have wished us Happy Holidays?!

Isn’t that the same for you?
The best thing about 2024 is that the Supreme Leader will be one year closer to death.
"And half of you will be fired. ha ha just kidding"
He was kidding. The percentage is more like 75%
Couldn’t he at least have wished us Happy Holidays?!
No, he can’t. He is more the type of guy that cancels holidays.
Exactly. It's not a place to make good software. Nobody at BC cares about that. Got it?
Na you're clueless. They aren't mutually exclusive. Got it?
"Broadcom is a great place to make good money."

Once again, Broadcom is run like a private equity firm. This is their style. HT and his team have the interpersonal skills that you would expect from mercenaries. No surprise.
Hock is an interesting guy tbh! yesterdays coffee talk shows it again. He is a brilliant business man who know how to do math and his financial plays. He is open, transparent and say what he thinks. Even better as to grope in the dark. The predictions and also perspective on things is just realistic. Perception meets reality guys.
VMware's operation profit is absolutely weak and didn’t growth in the last years, even more worse, with more and more acquisitions and new employees it was becoming more worst. This is and was not healthy. Numbers don’t lie, its just math & capitalism
He has an interesting, and direct, personality. The Q&A showed that.
"Sorry, could you repeat that question? I wasn't paying attention."
Until he does his cringe jokes
"And half of you will be fired. ha ha just kidding"
I know we (VMWare employees) were told on here what Hock Tan was like and how he ran the ship for months and months before the acquisition. But to see it in real life really makes a difference.
He's a business man. $$$$$. Shareholders. Profits.
I'm not complaining. I'm just saying the writing was on the wall for all of us to see. And now we see it with our own eyes.
Make the decision that's right for you and your situation when it comes to your career. That's all you can do.
The one thing I'm not personally impressed with is the way he talks to people. The tone is condescending and he has 0 charisma. Again, he's a business man and not an entertainer, I get it. But just a smidge of excitement would be nice. Something, anything, to make me believe he's a human and not a gd soulless robot.
You cannot deny that the man knows how to run a profitable business. But that's where my respect for him ends. Plain and simple. You can still be a great business man and be human.

Yes, I reminisce about the good old days of Raghu's glorious all-hands! I was so pumped after every one.
Get real folks. Broadcom is all about making money for the employees and share holders, not making snowflakes feel good.
If you can roll up your sleeves and leave the hurt feelings at the door, Broadcom is a great place to make good money.
If you want to WFH 4 days a week, so you can take care of your pets and your sick parents, paint your toe nails, watch company culture training videos and tend to your organic backyard compost, then maybe broadcom isnt for you? The good news is that pretty much any other tech company in SF will be able to cater to your needs. At least until they run out of funding, or get bought by Broadcom.
public disclosure of confidential meetings in a public forum that is actively monitored by press is not a good thing for our stock prices.
Thanks for the pro tip, I’ll add this to my list of things to pi-s off the Hock man.
At risk of sounding like a Hock fan, public disclosure of confidential meetings in a public forum that is actively monitored by press is not a good thing for our stock prices.
Some people really seem to struggle with the idea that they are employees of a business, not kids in kindergarten.
Don't know how well VMware was run lately, but after 4 useless ceos in 6 years of Symantec with all the warm fuzzies, below 10 percent operating margin, pointless acquisitions, and stock price in the trash, Hock is a welcome change.
Line of doom of course.
It dictates whether the BU headcount will shrink (temporarily under LOD), stay the same (above LOD) or disappear/consolidated(under for 2 or more quarters in a year)
What was the discussion regarding attendance?
The coffee talks are always a week after earnings. Of course it is about finances. Hock doesn't sing and dance. He gives updates about the business. Did you expect a hug instead?
Re: Happy Holidays:
RSUs vest tomorrow. Bonuses are paid out tomorrow. Dividends are paid in two weeks.
Merry Christmas to me! Merry Christmas to me!
