Don't feel safe based on your preformance rating. Plenty of 3 and 4 rated people got walked out in February. How you impacte the bottom line is that matters. Micron is self insured for health insurance so the people with high medical bills are at high risk. Large top balance holders also are targets along with people at the top of the GJS pay bracket. These factors all end up disproportionately impacting older workers, but that dosen't matter because the severance agreement requires you to sign away your right to sue for age discrimination. Yes; Micron's severance package is simply a bribe so they can break the law.

Dude, who cares about whether they shut down the site or they don't? Main thing is that there is going to be another evaluation next June, and the mid-managers need to decide who gets 1, who gets 2, who gets 3, who gets 4, and who gets 5. And this all needs to fall on normal curve. And somebody needs to be let go - that's mr. S's rule of the land. And if you think the process is going to be fair, please, tell me where you buy your "good stuff". And in Boise that means move. And in places like Phoenix that means Intel and TCMS will compete their a$$es over your a$$. Now your guys think: are you gonna live your live on your terms or your managers' term? Or you are going to get solace in "they are not shutting down the site"...

"GoodLuck" hit the nail on the head when describing Boise. I had to move away though because the crime rate was getting out of hand. More people, more problems. Turns out most other companies pay better anyway and the "cheap cost of living" isn't a thing in Boise anymore.

Look, I can appreciate that Boise is not as central to Micron as it was 25 years ago.

But I struggle to understand how you can ask this question, I assume, earnestly. Do you honestly think that Micron is going to shut down its headquarters a year after announcing a fab expansion in Boise? Who hurt you, to make you so paranoid? I don’t get it. They may well lay you off, but they are not shutting down the site.

About move to Boise. It is pretty toxic place to work - make sure you have tough skin, better yet, is a bully yourself. Boise ain't cheap as it used to be and do not expect further real estate appreciation, as there are no high paying jobs, and most previous drive came from remotees, which increasingly forced to go back to offices in CA. And as I said, if you get ejected through Micron's revolving door-performance curve carousel, there are no other jobs in Boise. So, go for it only if you have no family and you want to use MU as a stepping stone/looks good on your resume.

Will anyone in R&D move from Boise to Albany?

Thinking to move or not to move to Boise.
Things seem to be pretty red there

Probably not any time soon. Lots of investment happening now. Considering Micron Boise survived the last decade with no HVM I see no reason it will not survive for a decade more.

Why do you ask?
